Wade had to be fired
I was a Wade supporter, and liked him a lot, but the longer we kept him, the worse it was probably going to get in terms of punishment. The general thoughts around the program are that the NCAA won't go after us as hard.

Wilkinson is the on scholarship player left. Had any team ever lost every single scholarship player and every single recruit from one year to the next?

No point in being upset with LSU admin. The NCAA, Media, and FBI (taxpayer dollars) is another story.

They all came to LSU to play for Wade. Obviously with Wade no longer the coach that changes things for all of the players. The portal essentially allows them to be re-recruited again by anybody...including LSU. Now, I have no doubt McMahon has (and probably continues to) talked to the players trying to get some of them to stay. But, they have chosen to exercise their "free agency". Maybe 1 or more decide to return once there is more clarity with the coaching staff, roster, etc. But the possibility of losing the ENTIRE team was very real (despite some posters calling it complete hyperbole).

The Fudge decision stings a bit more than the others because (1) he has the physical traits to be a NBA player. He was probably the best pro-prospect of the (what were) returning players; (2) he's one of the few players on the team with Louisiana ties. His mother and her family are from the Lafayette area.

Maybe he will decide to stay. Maybe others will too. But anyone surprised by the mass exodus just wasn't paying attention. You can talk about the money all you want (and, I promise you, LSU's basketball bankroll is FAR less than that of many big time CBB players), but Wade was a great recruiter and his players liked him. You can't just cut bait without there being repercussions.

I guess the good news is that if you are a transfer player looking for playing time LSU now has PLENTY of it to offer
