What a remarkable Final Four. I was lucky enough to have attended the Saturday games. The talent on those squads was who's who of that ear. UNC was just loaded with MJ,Perkins,Worthy, Houston had Phi Slamma Jamma, Louisville had the McCray boys and Georgetown had Ewing.

This was also the first year CBS televised the NCAA Tourney.

Didn't remember it was 17 left on the clock.

Which made me realize that this was before NC State invented fouling late in the game.

Either way.
Pretty cool photo angle I hadn't seen before.

It would be hard to draw a better shooting form than this.

As I recall, UNC's first 6 or 8 points were all from goal tending calls on Ewing. Maybe someone else can confirm.

you are correct and it wasn't even debatable whether it was goal tending or not.

Georgetown's possession after Jordan's shot was when Fred Brown saw a guy he thought was a teammate in his peripheral vision but it was actually Worthy. Georgetown did foul Worthy with a few seconds left but by that time it was too late.

I had a co-worker to got to attend the final.
He claims he sat next to Walt "Clyde" Frazier, but I'm still skeptical.

The night when Mike Jordan became Michael Jordan, little did anyone know at the time. Also Worthy and Ewing were dominant forces that entire game.

It was the greatest era of college basketball. The centers from that era include; Sampson, Hakeem, Ewing, Bowie. Too bad Bowie and Sampson were befelled by injuries in the NBA. College basketball in that era was must watch tv. The Big East, top to bottom was the best conference.

Lebron would’ve stats padded a triple double but lose by 25.

Correct. John Thompson told Ewing to swat away the first 2 or 3 shots by NC no matter what. He thought it would intimidate NC and make them stay outside the paint for the first half. He was wrong. That tactic likely lost them the game.

Can't believe a coach like Thompson would sorely underestimate a Dean Smith-coached team like that
