This kid was highly recruited and hellmers has not had it lately. I think Lansville is gonna be really good and he kinda settled in during his last outing. Give him a shot and let’s see if he can show out. The future is bright with him Taylor and Dutton

I can agree with this.

Agree. I also wouldn't mind Floyd get a start or two during midweek games to work on his offspeed stuff.

Of course. Our weekend rotation is nowhere near settled. We need to keep looking at all options. Cale deserves the next look.

How would any of us know that he deserves a shot? May be the guys who have been given a chance have been more deserving?

absolutely.

He set his innings, batters faced, and pitch highs last week with 2, 7, and 31 respectively. I hope they give him the start and push him to 45 or 50 pitches. Hopefully that gets him through 3 innings and 10 or 11 batters.

Floyd against ULM this week wouldnt be a bad idea but I get the feeling they will still just throw 90-95% fastballs with him on the mound still as he would still probably dominate a team like ULM doing that.

I'd like to see him get an inning where he isn't allowed to throw a single fastball.

That's the thing I just don't get. They won't call the off speed. It has mostly looked bad when they've called it, but they rarely even call it. Get him out there in a meaningless inning and call him like you would any other pitcher.

I would hope not, but you're probably right. This is prime chance to get some live reps utilizing his offspeed pitch.

YES! I consider his fastball as an elite pitch. He doesn't need a four pitch mix, just something that will change speeds that the batter has to respect. If he can develop a slider, look out.

He can throw a breaking ball. That's a good reason to give him a start. Hellmers tries to throw in some type of breaking pitch, but it's just loopy and doesn't do anything. He's too predictable. Garret Edwards' breaking pitch is similarly loopy, but occasionally has some snap to it. Which reminds me, Edwards hasn't pitched since last Friday. It's weird how little he's pitched this year, after all the usage he had last year.

I'm on board with this.

I'm also fine with moving Hellmers and Edwards to mop up duty while they get everything figured out.

re: Edwards. He hurt his knee. I know he didn't look healthy his first game back. I wonder if he's still not feeling great. I expected some big innings out of him this year. He also had a weird ending to last season - seemed like he kinda hurt his arm against TN but then they said he was just tired, had his feelings hurt, etc. Who knows.

I know Edwards was dealing with a knee injury. That might have something to do with his lack of appearances.

And how about a little Jacob Hasty and Grant Fontenot while we're at it?

Fontenot was in the bullpen for the La Tech game.

Yeah, I remember hearing about that. But I thought they said it was more or less fine now, and that he was just taking precautions by wearing a knee brace. Maybe they weren't being honest about it, though. That would certainly not be unusual regarding an injury.

No idea what's going on with them...I had high hopes for Grant this year.
