Would love to see it, but it is hard to see him picking LSU. He has a ton of interest.

Expected move, but Gtown probably will be worse than us

Yep. It's much closer to home for him and Kevin Nickleberry is there as an assistant. The question is what happens at the end of next season if Patrick Ewing flops again? His record in 5 seasons there has been horrible. They've only had one winning season during that time and never finished better than 3rd in the Big East. He's only made one NCAA Tournament in 5 years and has never had a winning Big East record. This year they only won 6 games and went 0-19 in conference play.

The ONLY reason Ewing is still the HC is because he is arguably the greatest player in the history of the school. Otherwise, he would have been fired after this season...if not last. Still, despite his stature at the school you have to think Georgetown would like to play winning basketball again and they will have to make the tough decision to fire Ewing. This has to be his make or break year, right? And given 5 years of history I don't think any one can expect him to "make" it this season.

Yeah. Real risk Murray will have 2 coaches fired back to back.

This goes along with my theory up that great players seldom make great coaches. The only one I can think of is Bill Russell. Of course he is also had himself as a player.

My theory is they can't understand why players can't do what they themselves found so easy.

Lenny Wilkens was HOF player who had great success as a coach, for which he was later inducted into the HOF once more. Coincidentally, so was John Wooden.

But you are right. It is hard for Penny Hardaway, Patrick Ewing, Danny Manning, Chris Mullen, etc, etc, to understand both how to recruit and coach athletes/players that are inferior to them as players. Try as he might, Ewing can't "teach" a guy to be a 7'0 rim eraser and he probably finds it difficult to try to develop a game plan for guys who simply can't do what he could do as a player. That's probably why it was a shrewd move for Juwan Howard to bring a guy like Phil Martelli on his staff and Penny Hardaway to bring on Larry Brown to help with the coaching.

Maybe one of the biggest problems Ewing faces is his name simply doesn't carry the cache with recruits that the Georgetown admin/boosters erroneously thought it would. To (now) adults who saw Ewing play in the 80's and 90's he is still a huge name (particularly with those older Georgetown fans). But today's 16, 17, 18, 19 year old weren't even born when he was in his dominant prime.

Georgetown probably needs to accept that the John Thompson era and it's offshoots are long gone and look to hire a new coach who doesn't have ties to that era. With the right HC there is no reason Georgetown couldn't quickly become a power once more. They still have program tradition. It is still located in an area rich in talent. It is still in a power conference. But trying to recreate the 80's and 90's isn't going to work.

Wow, this is surprising. I expected he’d end up at a bigger school, specifically an SEC team. Good luck to him, he has a chance to be a really good player.

Don’t think it should be. That’s about his level. He’ll be able to lock down the guards in that conference and his offensive woes can be hidden better than in a power 5 conference.

Part of the reason we had so much success recruiting the DMV under Wade was the underperformance from the major schools in the DMV area. Maryland and GTown have had no national impact lately

My Man, you are prolly not aware but that theory goes way back in baseball - long before professional basketball came to pass.

ESPN Top Transfers

A few names to note that are not on the OP list:

quote:

9. Terrence Shannon Jr., 6-6, 215 lbs., SF, Jr., Texas Tech

A big name in the portal, Shannon never quite got going this season after being suspended to start the campaign and then dealing with nagging injuries. But he put up numbers when healthy and has a track record of production in college. Averaged 10.4 points.

quote:

19. Kario Oquendo, 6-4, 210 lbs., SG, Soph, Georgia

One of several Georgia players in the portal, Oquendo is the best of the bunch. Averaged 15.3 points and 4.3 rebounds. Had four games of at least 25 points in SEC play, including a 33-point effort against Texas A&M in late February.

Big time athlete. Best player on a bad Georgia team.
quote:

23. Ben Vander Plas, 6-8, 232 lbs., PF, Sr., Ohio

A skilled forward from Wisconsin, Vander Plas has been one of the best players in the MAC the last three years. Averaged 14.3 points, 6.8 rebounds and 3.1 assists this past season, joining teammate Mark Sears on the All-MAC first team.

This dude was a beast when we played Ohio. Big body that can defend and shoot the 3.

quote:

36. Jermaine Couisnard, 6-4, 211 lbs., SG, Jr., South Carolina

The 6-foot-4 Couisnard finished the season on a tear, scoring 33 points against LSU on Feb. 19 and going for 22 points against both Mississippi State and Auburn. Averaged 12.0 points and 3.2 assists on the season.

37. Landers Nolley II, 6-7, 208 lbs., SG, Jr., Memphis

Nolley had a huge freshman season at Virginia Tech, but hasn't quite reached those heights during his two seasons at Memphis. Averaged 9.8 points last season. Still a very good outside shooter with size.

Cousinard is the scorer we need. Elite SEC player. Landers Nolley's son with ties to one of our assistants.
quote:

58. Tyree Appleby, 6-1, 163 lbs., G, Sr., Florida

Appleby averaged double-figures for the fourth straight season, but he shot the ball at a career-worst clip. Still showed a propensity for big games, including a 26-point effort against Auburn. Averaged 10.9 points and shot 34.2% from 3.
