Shannon Forman was probably the biggest influence and teacher in Smart”s life. He was not only Javonte’s longtime basketball coach but he was a close friend of his whole family. Wade came in and quickly knew the importance that Forman played in Smart’s recruitment decision and his development as a player.
Wade did what he thought was necessary to keep Javonte out of Kentucky and stay home to play basketball 5 minutes from his childhood home. He looked at Smart as a “must have” as the new head coach at LSU. Not bc of his impact on the court necessarily but Smart was exactly the type of player that he must convince to stay home and play for LSU if he was to be a successful head coach at LSU.

He’s basically pissed because he made the infamous “damn strong” offer that tilts to the family, “taking care of the mom, taking care of the kid” which Foreman didn’t think rewarded himself enough. The offer included something ($?) for the player and his family.
Which now sounds stupid since it’s legal. Never know what the NCAA will do here, hopefully LSU puts on a strong defense but one gets the feeling the NCAA wants one more flex since it’s now a paper tiger with NIL. Always picking on the lesser schools and protecting the blue bloods.

Now that makes more sense. And I guess it is a violation. Certainly not a death penalty violation.

Actually, it's not against the rules if a high school coach of a recruit/commitment is hired to be an assistant coach of some type that is on the court. This has been a practice for many years and has been done by schools all over. They can't be hired for off-court jobs now (a rule which was just made in 2017).

I don’t think it’s ok to directly pay a player outside of NIL. I could certainly be wrong.
The entire NCAA process has for years been such bullshite because there’s never been a standard. Punishment handed out to one school vs another is so inconsistent. Schools have been punished harsher than another school with more egregious violations. It’s insane.
I seems after NIL was put into place that the NCAA should have cleared its slate of any investigation involving a player receiving benefits. Millions have been made by schools, coaches, television networks, etc. for years off the backs of kids. Greed at its finest.

Can anyone prove that the money and job offered to the coach wasn't for the hs coach's abilities? That would certainly at least be an arguable defense.
