It's time to revisit this age-old question.

I'm filling out an NCAA bracket determined solely by mascot and what I believe would win a fight in nature. Need a final determination from the O-T, once and for all, to decide who to pick in a Final 4 matchup between UCLA and Memphis.

(The Miami Hurricanes and UAB Blazers will be meeting up in the New Orleans in the other F4 matchup, feel free to weigh in on this one, but I think The U is gonna win it all.)

This is a matchup that i neglected to think of when i was in middle school. i would take the bear. ability to stand and rake the tiger with sharp claws along with a slight strength advantage.

In a fight between a tiger and a grizzly bear - whoever strikes first.

The tiger would win if it successfully used its powerful bite on the neck since it is very hard to get out of a tiger’s jaws.

Once the bear manages to get the first swing at the tiger’s spine or legs, the fight is over.

We talking in the grasslands or in the woods?

Street fight or gentlemans fight?

Psht. Bears and tigers can survive hurricanes. Hurricanes can’t survive themselves.

Neutral site. A basketball court, perhaps.

I don't think a full grown tiger can penetrate a full grown and fattened up grizzly enough to mortally wound him. First the tiger is half the size of the grizzly and second the barrier of fur and fat to get to a vital organ or artery on the grizzly is pretty damn thick.

I think those grizzly claws get to the tiger first.

Scientists in Arizona recently found the crushed skull and mangled carcass of a grown female black bear. Nearby were prints from a jaguar that wandered up from Mexico, along with jag scat containing bear hair. Smithsonian

If a jaguar can kill and eat a bear, a tiger almost certainly can.

In an octagon or 20x20 cage a bear

In the woods or brush and if tiger could use some of its stealth I’d say tiger

Yeah anybody who says tiger over a grizzly or polar bear is showing they really have no idea about these animals. The Bear and it isn't close. As the other poster stated it would be hard for the tiger to even seriously hurt the bear with how thick it’s fat and fur get. The bear isn’t as cool or athletic but brute force and size would simply win the day

Look at the claws on this fricker:

Those could easily penetrate a tiger.

In a cage the tiger is in trouble, but out in the open the bear won’t keep up.

ETA: I realize the bear in this YouTube video isn’t huge, but he also had a close friend that wanted no part of the tiger.

Bear vs Tiger

That was probably a small black bear sub-species and Jaguars actually have a stronger bite than tigers don’t they. I definitely think a tiger could take down some of the smaller bear species butte we are talking Grizzly, Kodiak or Polar the tiger might as well be a dog
