It seems obvious Watson really wants a deal to be made with the Falcons.

Maybe he's trying to spur some good PR by meeting with the home team.
Grassroots will be the way to rebuild his image.

They cant, its posturing to get more out of the Saints. And if they somehow do, it will bury that franchise for a while so frick it

It's not posturing. The Texans have accepted both Saints and Falcons offers. It's up to Watson which one he wants to go to. Will find out tonight or tomorrow.

I think the Falcons are taking the approach that the next year or two don't matter.
If you don't have a franchise QB you have nothing, and they essentially don't with Ryan at the end of his career.
Watson is 26 and is under contract for several years, and is likely to re-sign given its a hometown team.
They may not be great for a year or two but after that will have the QB.

Surely Watson doesn't wanna suffer through a rebuild in his prime years

There is no way they can keep Ryan and pay Watson, which means, at a minimum, they need to trade or cut Ryan. They will be operating this year and next year with at least a 20 mil cap hit, while paying Watson atleast 30

If he goes there, he likely doesn't see it as a rebuild.
The falcons will have sold him on a vision beyond just its his hometown team...they will sell him on signing this guy and that guy (Allen Robinson and Will Fuller), etc.
The reality will be that he is talented enough to have them in some form of playoff contention, but they won't be "good" for a couple of years most likely.
But if you don't have a QB you don't have a chance. So I understand them shooting for it, especially with him seeming interested.

You sir HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD!
Home is HOME!
Home is HOME!

No one cares what you think.
"Home" is a stupid reason for a player to go somewhere with other options on the table.
I'm just trying to be objective and see it from the perspective of someone that makes poor decisions.

I wonder if it is as trivial as him growing up a Falcons fan and he and his family can’t see him playing for a division rival they grew up rooting against.
I don’t think that’s all that trivial

If Watson goes to Atlanta, he truly was not choosing based on trying to win now.
When have NFL players ever been shown to be smart?
I think he chooses the Falcons

As mentioned in the other thread, Armstead's contract goes 13 mill in dead money once 3 today hits if we haven't agreed to an extension.
So there's a deadline for the Saints.

Even if the Falcons get Watson I would put the Saints above them in the division.

Atlanta is definitely a more attractive city to live in for most professional players, but that hasn't helped the Falcons, Hawks or Braves attract FAs pretty much ever.
Watson might just be built different and really really loves the Falcons and wants to be there. Who knows
