Retaining Nickelberry

Hypothetically, how far would we have to go in the tournament before you’d want to keep Nickelberry? I say win a final four game.
He has a terrible coaching record but at some point you’d have to consider it. Seems fair to me.

I highly doubt he is under consideration at all. Would probably have to win the tournament to be considered. By then, SW may already have his guy and is waiting to announce

Doubtful at best unless you know no one else wants to come here.

If he wins the whole thing, I would be okay with it.

Given that SC and UF have openings, letting Nickleberry stay for a couple of years may help salvage next years roster and get us past whatever sanctions come down.
Would rather have sanctions behind us and not compete with other SEC schools for coaches with those things out there.

2 wins and a solid effort against Auburn.

Actually he could be a perfect coach to get us through the sanctions. We will most likely be obsolete for about 2-3 years. I am not sure he would want to do it though. Depending on the severity of the sanctions what big name coach would want to be here.

He’s our Matt Luke.
ETA. If we paid him 7 figures, he’d take it. He’s not going to make that anywhere else.

We would be a complete anomaly if we were the only school in recent history to have 3 year sanctions against us. Schools who’ve done the same or worse have only had 1 year post season bans and paid fines.

In order to compete in college basketball you have to get the horses. WW proved he could get the horses but he also proved he had trouble doing it discreetly.
Nickelberry is probably a good enough coach to win in the SEC but is he a good enough recruiter? Can he recruit at a high level?
I know recruiting is very important in football, but given the fact that you can be one in done in basketball recruiting and transfer portal management is the lifeblood of a successful college basketball program and a little more critical than football. That's where TAF needs to help the next coach and it can be done within the NCAA rules with NIL.
The sad part of the WW fiasco is the fact that WW may be the last college coach that the NCAA punishes for improper payments. Now in the age of NIL payments to recruits are easy and can be done within NCAA rules.

I agree. And now it only takes 1-2 years to put together a roster in CBB. But you gotta have the coach.

You’re right, the hire is the most important thing now.

Hire a top level coach and pay enormous sums of money to players, (courtesy of NIL) and we will compete with them all from day one.

I don't want Bill Stewart

Have you heard of Scott Woodward?
