Lol. They don't have to. At least 50% of the voters in this country are the definition of the lowest common denominator. They want a government that takes care of them and protects them, because they're either too weak, too stupid or too scared to have the freedom to live their own lives. Even on this site, we have posters so obsessed with China and Iran they forget their greatest enemy is in Washington DC, regardless of which letter is by the President's name.
