Lately I’ve been playing Titleist Trufeel. I like the feel and low spin, but at 60 compression, it may be too soft for me. I’m thinking I should be using around a 90 compression?
My swing speed is in the 90s on my irons and around 100 on my driver and about a 10-12 handicap.
What ball would you recommend that’s fairly durable, at or under $30/dozen, and has low spin for greater distance?

Try the Maxfli Tour, around 87 compression, very good ball. You can buy them at Dick’s for 2 doz for $60 or 4 doz for $105.

You should be using a 10 degree driver. I would go with 10.5. I just watched a lot of videos in the last 2 days about balls and swing speed. The guy I took advice from is the ones that say pick your ball from the green back.

I want control of my ball into the greens. Which means I want the Prov1x. I did not know that the x balls have more spin. Withat said I saw a lot of numbers from a lot of PGA teachers say that the Taylormade TP5x is a ball that is going to work very well with your swing speeds. I have the same numbers as you. I was 107 with driver but as I get older u am down to 100.

I’ve been eying theTP5x. Good to hear it would fit my swing speed. Just wish they were a little cheaper. Are they at least durable?

None those are all crap and do not have urethane covers. You'll never see any difference between any of them.

I just made the switch. I’ve played BstoneXS religiously and just dabbled with Srixon Zstar.

TP5X is a superior golf ball. Plenty of wedge spin, hot off the putter face, absolutely is a nuclear warhead off the driver.

It is for me as well. I switched last year from zstar.

And yes the tp5x is durable.

OP if you are concerned about a few $ per dozen golf balls golf may not be the sport for you.

With your swing speeds the Bridgestone RX may be a good choice for you if you are willing to invest in what is by far the most important piece of equipment in your bag

Check out the Snell balls online from the guy that help develop the ProV1 and the TP5 balls.

Great balls at a great price point.

If you have a budget. The 2 piece ball that is going to work with your speeds is the Mizuno jpx. It works out middle of the road on spin but it's at the top on distance. If you have a budget this is the ball

The Srixon ad333 is the other but I did not like the fact you lose distance off the tee. Most courses I play are driver wedge. Very rare that I am hitting from 150 on a par 4 very rare. Me losing distance is me laying up on a par 5. So you can pick one of these or you can spend 20 more dollars and get the TP5x. I have swing speed of 100. But I still am out there 270 and 280. I used to be 280 and 300.

Your numbers work out to my numbers is the only reason I feel confident advising on this.

I loved this ball, but I disagree on this years release. I havent been able to play more than 2 holes with a ball before I cut it.

No need to up your budget if you are willing to put a slightly used ball in play.

I've still got several dozen of last year's model. If that's the case I'm gonna order what I can find left of them.

I liked the zstars but they cut and scuffed easily when I was using them.

I have similar swing speed numbers to you. I switched from TP5s to the Maxfli Tour.
I LOVE the TP5, but at half the price, the Maxfli is a no-brainer with the same/similar performance.
TXG compared it favorable to the ProV1's.

"Maxfli Tour — Final Grade

The Maxfli Tour CG golf ball gets an overall grade of 85.

The score is above the average for the market as a whole and is, frankly, outstanding considering the $34.99 retail price (and that’s before we consider that the Maxfli Tour is frequently on sale for less). Our visual inspection found the balls to be near perfect which is more than we’d expect from nearly any ball on the market right now.

The bottom line is that Maxfli Tour absolutely belongs in the conversation with the leading direct-to-consumer balls on the market and there’s a strong argument to be made that it’s one of the most consistent balls that doesn’t have a Titleist logo on it. For golfers looking to save a few bucks, the Maxfli Tour is an exceptional offering.

With zero bad balls in the mix, the “True Price” of the Maxfli Tour is $34.99. That’s equal to the retail price which means you’re getting exactly what you pay for.

Started gaming those last year after switching from Vice Pro+. The Snell is a freaking great ball.

If he's coming from a lower compression ball he may want to try the MTB Black. My suggestion is to buy the mixed box that they sell and see which one fits better.

End of the day if you buy five boxes, he's right at his $30 price point.

I bought the MTB-X after that great review they got. Great ball with only one complaint from me. If you're not sharp, it lets you know.

I dont think this is a real thing. From the limited research I have done over the last year compression matching to swing speed was an outdated concept that doesn't hold true.

Find a ball with the feel, distance and spin that works for you. Don't use compression as part of the decision process.

Interesting...It definitely was the "thing" back in the day, but I still hear sales persons and fitters today say that slower swings should use softer balls.
When I was younger I used to always use harder balls (100) in warm weather and softer (90) in cold weather so the ball wouldn't feel like a rock. Today, they have 5 layered balls with different skin vs core hardness...its more complicated these days.
I played yesterday and hit two drives off of one tee. My first was a Pro-v1 that wasn't quite flush and had a small fade just off the fairway. Second drive was some kind of Ultra ball I had in my bag. Hit it perfect down the middle. My best swing of the day. Walk down the fairway to find the Pro-v1 20 yards further...
The the right ball definitely makes a difference.
