Russia has taken a ton of equipment losses and they sustained a lot fatalities from some of the best specialized units like paratrooper/air assault.

At this point there is no way to sift fact from fiction. That number may seem high. However, keep in mind the war is like 10 days in and covers huge formations across multiple huge fronts. From the destruction I’ve seen, it’s entirely possible the Russians have indeed lost in the ballpark of 10,000 dead. But again, it’s impossible to know right now. In fact, it will probably be years before we know the true number.

They’re also losing flag and field grade officers out in the field. It is hard to know if it is because the action is just that hot or if it is a factor of their comms/opsec situation being so poor that high brass is having to go forward just to assure their intent is being executed.

Furthermore, they are often getting bogged down due to poor strategy and their equipment not being in good enough shape to go anywhere but hardball roadways. I don’t know how much of their lacking advance is due to direct defense v. indirect (man-made flood, taking out bridges, etc).

Divide by two and getting to 5.5k is a bit more reasonable. Remember they lost 2 transport planes full of paratroopers in the first days of the war. That was probably a battalion’s worth of specialized soldiers.

I certainly hope not. Just fodder for tyrants, but each life, on each side, unique and special.
