“Health-care spending is rising around the world, but the U.S. is the worst performer. The United States accounts for more than 40% of all global health spending.

Health-care spending made up 5% of total U.S. GDP in 1960. In 2020, spending hit almost 20% of total U.S. GDP.”

Start with little things. Like no more $75 charges for an 800mg aspirin.

That would certainly help probably.

I am a small-government, fiscal conservative. But something has to happen with the entire healthcare industry. It pains me to say it, but I don't know another way to address the problems other than heavy government regulation.

And when I say 'regulate' I mean everything from nurse & MA pay, non-profit hospitals' financial management, the pharma industry, all of it. The American healthcare industry is an out-of-control mess.

They've tried killing off the elderly, and I'm sure they'll try again.

Less insurance, with insurance limited to just major medical. Compare the prices and quality of those things like plastic surgery and lasic where consumers pay with their own money versus things predominately covered by insurance where consumers don't necessarily care about prices since someone else is paying most of the cost. Also, reform the FDA and the patent system for drugs.

Get healthy and stop getting sick.

It starts with you. The healthcare industry is only responding you your demand. Lower your demand by getting more healthy.

More people working.

They'll then be able to pay into the system instead of needing freebies.

That'll cut the cost the workers are being forced to carry.

Yea, but this is already a major part of the problem as is.

An acquaintance of mine went to the hospital shortly before Christmas 2021. Was there for approximately six hours with almost no medical assistance administered. Total cost, $18,000.

Virtue signaling politicians peacock in front of cameras talking about insurance coverage when cost is the real issue to resolve.

That's my dilemma, but the industry isn't going to overhaul themselves.

This. Also cut out the middle man bullshite and let Health Insurance companies operate across state lines. This will raise competition and lower prices. As stands now, several carriers have monopolies established in their markets which lets them drive up rates on a whim because there are often no other better choices.

Also close the fricking border and quit letting millions of illegals leach off the the taxpayers teat for healthcare.

Stop electing republicans who torpedo every attempt to fix the system and claim that they have a much better plan, only to come up with zero when they're in power. And start electing republicans that won't sell out to the insurance companies like the democrats.

What a dumb data point. The government dumped billions of new dollars (on top of billions of Medicare and Medicaid and Vet dollars) into the healthcare system.

Simple....allow more competition....how you ask? By allowing health insurance to be sold across state lines.

Stop allowing people to use the ERs as a walk in clinic.

Stop treating pain as a vital sign.

Stop incentivizing obesity in the healthcare system and in society.
