Because he wanted closer ties with Russia and shunned NATO. Victoria Nuland and others in the Obama Administration worked to support neo-Nazis in Ukraine who helped stage a coup and implement a western puppet government. This is part of why Crimea held a referendum to leave and join Russia, which the US media portrayed as a forceful annexation. Nuland is back in the White House, as is Tony Blinken and other neo-Cold War interventionist zealots. We are responsible for this mess with decades of NATO expansion and playing war games in the region.

Yanukovich was so corrupt he was thrown out of his own party. It would be like kicking Ross Perot out of the Reform party or Ralph Nader out of the Green Party.
Check out his house - not his official government palace (his white house) I mean the house he swore he got from his government salary and "gifts from friends who are friends".

You are missing the point of the OP, we lit the fuse fellas, to say "oh we didnt cause the explosion" is nonsense. No different than this whole covid disaster (although in that case I believe we did more than just light the fuse).

NATO expansion is no excuse for Russia invading Ukraine.
The government we allegedly installed via coup isn't even in power and I don't think anyone doubts the legitimacy of the current regime. Russia kind of/sort of got a pass for invading Ukraine to steal Crimea due to the coup, but that excuse died a while back.
