Hugely surprising. I thought he was going to be the Friday night starter and he’s barely pitched. I’m wondering if the reports of him getting hammered in scrimmages are the reason?

If the role they see him in is high leverage situations at the end of games, well, we haven’t been in those situations yet. If he doesn’t pitch in this 4-game weekend, then yeah, probably a bit concerning. But now? Nah.

Nope. @adam4848 had him in the starting pitcher list and not just on the list but at the top of the list.

As much as I enjoy Adam’s previews, he’s a fan just like us. He also had Drost as a starting outfielder

Don't think it's an injury. He just didn't hit well in preseason practices. He still strikes out a ton.

He’s the same pitcher he always was. He has great stuff but is highly inconsistent with his control. This coaching staff values throwing strikes as a top priority and until Fontenot shows that he can be more consistent, he’s not going to pitch in as many games.

To be fair to Adam which I rarely am, when he made that post, Fontenot was still one of the pitchers being looked at to start and most people at the time thought it was a done deal since it’s what Fontenot was told to get him to come back. That being said, the Drost prediction was not a good one even then.

Early intent is to use Gervase, Reyzelman, and Fontenot to close games. We saw Reyz to Fontenot already, and we saw Reyz to Gervase already - Fontenot prob would have followed if the situation were different. Taylor looks like a dude back there too, though, so they have some options if they wanted to start extending guys.

Yeah i prefer to have multiple guys to close as opposed to the one guy at the back end that they would just always bring in in every close situation

This season so far has severely devalued his previews. I’m guessing his inside info was coming from Paul’s coaching staff so he had to guess this year more than usually.
