For those that Home School what programs are you using, are you happy which is the best one? Everywhere I call they are booked with a waiting list saying they are getting 7-10 calls a day.

can you point me in the right direction

So, not home school?

Or, is it you just don't want them in a traditional school and the education is happening at someone else's "home"?

My kid does UVA at the house. Online public school. It’s a lot of work for her. We help but she has teachers that she emails and video calls for help.

So, you are going to homeschool the child yourself or you want to put the child on a computer program so you can work?

My friends daughter goes to UVA too.

This kid was bullied basically for being non-gender conforming.

Weirdly, that kid has a school friend that is also at UVA and was taken out by super religious parents. It sounded like a fascinating mix of a lot of people who are just tired of the bull shite education system.

He said his kid has a good bit of homework.

It is a lot of schoolwork. My kid works about 5 hours a day on assignments. UVA allows you to participate in programs you'd also get in regular public school. So gifted art for my kid. Honestly if it wasn't for the gifted art, she'd finish her work daily. But she compares workload with her friends who are in public school, and they are significantly less than her on workload.

We previously tried to home school. It just wasn't enough work in the programs we had, which were only programs. I work from home and the wife works only 20 hours a week. But we don't really want to home school so it wasn't working out.

We only have her doing these programs so she can pursue the competitive gymnastics racket. Otherwise we'd probably toss her back in the Clink with the rest of the heathens.

Wife teaches for UVA. Seems like a really good option for those who don’t want to expose their kids to the penitentiary that is normal public schools.

My daughter will graduate UVA this year. It has been fantastic. The teachers she has had have been outstanding all around. She has been taking duel enrollment classes the last few years and anytime she had questions/needed help they were always available. She still talks to teachers she had years ago and they will still help if she asks.

She just talked to her advisor at LSU and she will basically be entering as a Junior next fall. She of course has TOPS but a couple other scholarships already so no worries there.

Can't say enough good about UVA.

And for those who bring up the socialization bullshite. She has friends. Some who go to UVA and some who don't. We even went on field trips with UVA pre Covid. WWII Museum, Renaissance Festival, Air Show in New Orleans. My wife and sister even took her to Lafayette for a dance and made a Girl's weekend of it.

On the field trips you would see basically see a cross section of Louisiana. So if you wonder what kind of kids they have there just look around, the good thing is shitheads aren't allowed to disrupt things.

People who pay ridiculous private school tuition just to get away from public schools are wasting their money, there are ways to get a great public education even in Louisiana.

It’s not one or the other, most home schoolers use a online curriculum where you are furnished individual courses syllabus, quiz’s etc. It assures the appropriate material gets covered to maintain equivalency with public school system. The parent supervises, provides assistance as needed, and organizes outside activities. I guess some people still think home schooling means mom or dad sitting at the kitchen table with their kid, a notebook, and pencil in hand.

Yes, I know what homeschooling entails because we homeschool
(Not trying to be a smart arse)

I asked what I asked because these are a variety of things available. There are pen and paper curriculums, totally online, a hybrid of both (which is sort of what we use), and there are also co-ops and people who teach other people’s children in their homes. Not to even begin with the styles of homeschooling.

I know some people who use online curriculums bc they don’t want their kid in public school, and both parents still work. Nothing wrong with that - so that’s why I asked.
