The mannings have grown up outside of the LSU culture. They are uptown, Newman boys.

They don’t have memories of traveling to Baton Rouge on Saturday’s to tailgate and see games. They don’t really even do much of the Louisiana stuff that defines LSU.

It’s neither right or wrong but that’s who they are. They’re not “too good” for LSU, they’re just in a different place culturally.

Archie's summer camp starting in the early 90's and throughout the years heavily influenced kids away from LSU. Jake Delhomme will tell you this straight from the horse's mouth. Not really a secret that Archie not only hates LSU, but went out of his way to indirectly hurt LSU's chances at recruits or diamonds in the rough with high ceilings.

Despite being born and raised in Louisiana, Arch Manning will go to :not LSU.

So he’s like 99% of that state then

Funny how so many think if a kid from La is good at football he’s obligated to play for LSU.

99% of Louisianans don't choose LSU? Interesting... Also, they certainly aren't "obligated" to play for LSU. However, more times than not, if you're born and raised in an area, you typically want to play for your "home state" team. It isn't some foreign or novel concept...

quote:

What a crock of shite a friend of mine was born and raised in the same neighborhood as the Mannings, she’s like 7th generation and went to Ole Miss.

And...? What's your point? Again, Uptown and the Garden District neighborhoods of New Orleans have a ton of hoity toity folks, much like the Mannings, that feel they are too good for LSU. However, interestingly enough, they and their children go to the likes of Ole Miss, Alabama, and Georgia instead of "elite" institutions like the Ivy Leagues, Stanford, Notre Dame, Georgetown, MIT, University of Chicago, Michigan, UCLA, and so forth.

I don't know how much Saban recruited Eli, he had just got the LSU job and was still an unknown.
Plus Booty decided to finally come back and you had Davey

I don't think you can argue with either's decision, Peyton went to the most talented SEC team at the time and LSU was horrible and Eli got to play for Cutcliffe who mentored Manning at his dad and mom's alma mater.

Time to end this thread. Archie is the one of the greatest Ole Miss legends. Despite what you youngsters think the biggest rivalry game every year is the Ole Miss game. Sure, the BIGGEST game is Bama. The Florida and A&M games are always big. Arch isn't coming here. End of story. And it's no big deal!

To be fair...when did LSU have anything to offer a Manning? When Peyton and Eli were making their choices LSU wasn't exactly a powerhouse

There are a few reasons why Arch is now considering us.
- He may want to compete against Howard. They do say that competition brings the best out in people.
- In some circles, CBK is known as a QB whisperer.
- As a school, we have recently developed one of the most talented QB's in the NFL who is Super Bowl caliber.

I get what you are saying, but Arch isn't willing to compete against Howard. Put simply, Cooper and the Manning clan want Arch to be "the guy" on campus from day one. They aren't going to allow him to go to a school where he may sit on the bench for any extended period of time. They certainly don't want him going to a school where he may never surpass younger quarterbacks -- like Howard.

You’re over thinking this. Majority of LSU’s players didn’t grow up dreaming to be a tiger. It doesn’t have as much weight as people on here make it seem. A lot of these kids who dream of being a tiger don’t even end up being offered. Perfect example. Dak Prescott. “Culture fit” doesn’t matter. The only culture that matters is a clean program that wins.

I think Archie would put the kibosh on that, seems like he's the ultimate helicopter parent/grandparent

Archie was solid, he just played for a rival.

His kids suck.

I have no hatred for them
They seem like nice people
They are not sending any kids here
They don't bad mouth LSU if any of them hate LSU
its Archie but that has mellowed from the 60"s

LSU played Notre Dame for the very first time in 1970, losing 3-0 in South Bend. They played the following year in Baton Rouge in a huge revenge game. LSU stomped #2 ranked Notre Dame.

Archie was responsible for ensuring the Saints were not a good organization while he was in New Orleans. He was a likeable, “aw shucks” guy who people couldn’t stay mad at. It’s obvious he was trying, right? But he never challenged his teammates to be better. He was not a motivator. He didn’t complain to or about the team managers in an effort to build a winning team. He left to go play elsewhere but scurried back for an announcing job.

Archie convinced Peyton to go back to Tenn to avoid being drafted by the Saints. Peyton had another overhyped, mediocre season there and then Team Manning made threats about what would happen if he didn’t get drafted by the right team. Eli did the same thing and looked like someone shot his dog when he was drafted by a team he and Daddy didn’t like.

Peyton thought that the way to motivate his teammates and coaches was to badmouth them and blame them for losses. He talks like he has a mouthful of marbles. People used to actually debate if Tom Brady was better than Oeyton! LOL!

I feel the least disdain for Eli. He appears to be an idiot savant but not so much a savant. He’s the Dumb One. He curses so he’s cool with me.

Cooper, aka Goort, was an embarrassment to the family and kept locked away in the attic until recently. Just kidding but his injury and lack of athletic achievements has made him bitter. People say that he’s a huge success in financial planning. Really? I might not know a lick about financial instruments but if I called the top execs at any N.O. firm and dropped the Manning name and asked if we could talk finances during a round of golf with my dad or brothers, who would say no??? No one’s buying that BS.

If he went to LSU and broke a bunch of school records then went on to be QB for Dallas in the same fashion, most die hards on here would be kissing his arse just like they do for OBJ and Whitworth

My biggest problem with them is that shitty overpriced restaurant.
