Just finished my first ride on the Peloton, quick 20 minute beginner ride but I'm hooked. Tried searching for an existing thread but noting came up.
Anybody here using this? Picked it up for the days when the weather sucks/I don't feel like running. What rides are some of your favorites?

We talked about it some in the biking thread, but not much. We got ours for Christmas, surprised the wife with it, and of course I ride a heck of a lot more than she does.
I did 20 minute beginner rides for the first week or so. I average about 4-5 days a week on it. After I got used to the seat, and bought some cheap padded shorts on Amazon, I started doing mostly 30 minute rides. Matt Wilpers, Ben Alldis, Denis Morton, and Alex Toussaint are the instructors I keep going back to. With Alex being the one I like the most out of those.
I don't do live rides all that often, just because of the schedule, but there are tons of on demand rides that were taped from previous live rides. And I love the sessions. They start every 5 minutes, and there's usually a good selection of 20-30 minute rides, and a variety of instructors and music. I like something fast like rock or hip-hop to ride to.
If you're on Facebook, there are several groups. I joined the Peloton Dads group, and the guys in there are great.

Even though it was just my first ride, I hate that seat. Picking up a pair of bike shorts might not be a bad idea.
Thanks for the reccomendations on instructors, the one I did first was Robin Arzon, but it'll be good to have a good mix of 20-30 minute rides I can do at lunch/in-between meetings.

I usually don't wear the shorts on 20 minute rides, but always do on 30 minutes. And most of the instructors once you get past the beginner classes are a good mix of sitting and standing, so it isn't crucial. Takes a week or two to get used to the seat, and it will soften up some over time.
Did you already get shoes? A lot of people hate on the Peloton shoes, and the price, so I ordered some from Amazon that work great and fit well. My feet aren't huge at a 10.5 shoe, but a little on the wide side so I searched for ones that were true to size and a little wider.

We got the family pack or whatever it's called, so my fiance and I both got shoes, the weights, water bottles and some yoga stuff that I'll never use.

I was more enthused when i first got it 1.5yrs ago but still ride 2-4x per week. I choose based on the music more than the instructor.
Kendall Toole, former USC cheerleader, is easy on the eyes but provides a tough workout. She’s only 27 but acts more mature and plays classic rock from long before her time and hard metal.
Jenn Sherman is good. I like Alex Toussaint and Dennis Morton. Christine DErcole is good too. I like Robin Arzon as well, interesting backstory that is worth a read on Wikipedia.
Ben Aldis is one of the most boring instructors and will never take another class from him. On the other end of the spectrum is Cody, who is obnoxious but all the women love him and provide him a cult following. I avoid him.

Ha, that wasn't me, but that was a fun thread.
I started going back to the office for a few days every other week back in November. I was thinking about joining the gym in the building next door again, but their other locations aren't that convenient for my wife, and they don't do childcare. When they told me the price to join now, and it was way more than when I was a member before, I decided to get the bike instead. She kept saying that she didn't have time to get ready and go somewhere, and it was too cold to go running etc. So I have it set up right beside me here in my home office, and usually ride after I get the kids to bed. She usually gets one in a few days a week between dinner time and going to bed.

Is it about her transitioning away from being a lawyer to a Peloton instructor or is there more to the story? She was good and I liked her.

I had a friend (girl) reccomend that I take one of his classes, so good to know.

The lawyer part and being a top student was interesting, but so much more. I saw her Type 1 diabetes patch affixed to her tricep the other day for the first time. And not every day you hear about someone getting into fitness after being taken hostage.
Insane story:
In the summer of 2002, while an undergrad, Arzón was taken hostage with 40 others in a wine bar in Manhattan's East Village. "A man, armed with three pistols and a samurai sword, shot three people, doused the group with kerosene and threatened them with a barbecue lighter. He grabbed Arzon by the hair and held the gun and lighter to her head while using her as a human shield to communicate with police. Two patrons eventually tackled the man, giving police the opportunity to enter the bar and subdue him."[

I got my bike last Friday and started Sunday. It’s so convenient to get a workout in that the bike holds me accountable. With my work schedule, getting workouts in on the morning was a pain in the arse. So far my favorite instructor is Dennis Morton.

We got our bike this week as well. I’ve done rides everyday so far.
I like doing a 30 min Intermediate body weight workout and then a 30 min HIIT ride.
Today I did a 30 min HIIT ride then immediately went for a 3 mile run. That sucked
Legs we’re useless.
I’m enjoying it immensely so far. Still need to finish building the rest of my home gym, but getting my cardio fix in at night after the kids are in bed has been awesome.

I did the same thing Sunday and instantly regretted it on the trail. Love this thing so far.

At first I didn’t like the peloton. I’m not really into the “rah rah” feel good instructor telling you to “unlock your potential”. Felt like every ride was a counseling session for a broken gen z anxiety riddled woman.
But then I started doing Power Zone training. Highly recommend the discover your power zone series. Matt Wilpers is my favorite instructor, more like a coach than a counselor.
Basically you do a fitness test that will give you 7 zones. Then you train based on those zones and retest, so you can track progress

ours is getting delivered this week and this sounds more like my kind of thing.
I dont plan on using it a ton as I much prefer to lift weights or do strongman cardio but i will atleast once or twice a week just for health and this seems more my thing for sure.

I agree. I hate the “today we unlock your full potential!” bullshite, so I normally turn down the volume so I can barely hear them.
Sounds like I might need to do a Power Zone.
Also I need some bike shorts. Any recs for cheap ones?

I was in a similar boat. Started a new job in August that requires me in the office way earlier. Tried doing 530 lifts but that didn’t take.
Really happy with the convenience of the bike so I can ride in the morning and get lifts and runs in at night a few times a week.
