We've all been exposed to the stale, unoriginal ones that seemingly every hiring manager uses, such as "Where do you want to be in five years" or "What is your biggest weakness" or "Tell me about a time you felt personally challenged."

What are some good questions you have either asked or been asked that were outside of the box that most companies seem to be stuck in?

“The building is on fire and you have 60 seconds to get out, who/what do you save?”

Edit: I should also mention this was an interview for a position in the coma ward of a hospital.

I was once asked by the VP of Sales to sell bottled water to him while pretending he was a restaurant owner in an interview. I got the job so I must’ve done a good job.

What was your strategy?

It's funny how interviews are such a fickle thing, outside of the obvious things like being on time and not being a slob, something that one hiring manager absolutely loves will drop you to the bottom of the list with someone else.

Not a bad question, but I interviewed for a summer clerkship in law school and got a rejection letter from them in the mail soon enough where it was sent before I had the interview

The guy asked me where I was going after.

I said, "Wendy's". I was hungry, it was lunch.

He must've meant another interview. He made a face and said uhuh, we'll call ya. They didn't. Derp

I sell insurance so I knew what he was looking for - the ability to dig deeper during the sale instead of just being an order taker. I asked why he was looking for a new water vendor (digging for motivation and catering the whole pitch to that motivation without saying it) and he said his current vendor just wasn’t ever reliable when he needed them. I think I went into some BS about my “company” always being on call for immediate delivery (insurance agent always needs to be available when needed). Obviously there was more to it than that but basically I just thought of what he was looking for in the position I was interviewing for and catered my pitch to that by using the same strategies.

Job interviews are incredibly easy if you simply apply that to every response. It’s amazing how so many people frick up a job interview these days.

Had an interview online where you were asked questions and had to respond over the phone. This was with a medical staffing Co.
One question was " We take pride in ensuring that our clients and employees are Healthy and Happy. Briefly explain what you have done to be healthy and happy today"
I managed to stop laughing after about 30 seconds to hang up.
Surprisingly, I didn't get the job.
