All of these Millennials talking about how bad Dale Brown was and don’t even remember one game that he coached in I can assure you when he came to Lsu it was not a very good program and he built it national prominence the facts are the facts

Fake Brown cursed our program In word and deed. He should have remained persona non grata, Pete Maravich elevated LSU and Babbling Buffoon Brown came to town and put on his Elmer Gantry Tin hat….who did he inspire to greatness? Nobody! He had talent like nobody and he cheated and got caught, still trying to lie about it, « sow’s ear » but not a « silk purse »

Wade hasn’t proven anything other than he can recruit using questionable if not outright illegal tactics.

You know nothing of Dale Brown. Daddy Dale was as dirty as you can get but so were the Coaches at other programs.

You would think after so much time that the NCAA would have dropped the hammer down on LSU and Wade. As yourself why hasn't it happened?

Dale Brown once had a team with what, 4 future NBA players and couldn’t get anywhere

2018 team had at least 4 nba players
waters, smart, mays, reid

possibly in the future - days, emmitt williams

---

the final four team of 86 had 3 NBA players -
Ricky Blanton, John Williams, Nikita Wilson

the final four team of 91 had 2 NBA players -
Rudy Macklin, Howard Carter

The 1990 team had 3 NBA players - Shaq, Mahmoud, Stanley Roberts (36 years combined in the NBA) and lost a close game to a Georgia Tech in the tournament. Tech had 4 NBA players (Kenny Anderson, Brian Oliver, Malcolm Mackey, Dennis Scott - 53 years combined)

Not buying the 'Dale Brown couldn't coach talent' argument.

---

Until Rudy Macklin showed up, LSU had only one NBA player in 7 years, the Dr. Kenny Higgs.

I'll take a couple of final four appearances.

in 25 years, he had 3 very good regular seasons (5 or 6 losses), and 2 other seasons with 9 losses. the other 20 seasons were all 10+ losses.

Outside of the three consecutive good seasons (79-81), in 22 years he:

lost less than 10 games twice (9 games both years)
Missed the NCAA tournament 12 times
Lost in the 1st round of the NCAA tourney 6 times
Lost in the 2nd round twice
Made one elite 8
Made one final 4

Some people in this thread are seriously misremembering his LSU tenure. He squandered more talent than anyone in the nation.

A great example of Dale Brown's coaching ability was shown in the final moments of the LSU Georgetown game that took place in the Super Dome in 1989. During a time out John Thompson was diagramming a play like a mad man. Frantically drawing X's, O's and arrows with great skill and confidence. On the LSU bench Dale Brown huddles his team around him. Surrounded by his players Coach Brown asks them "Do you want to win this game?" The players enthusiastically shout "yes" and other affirmations. Coach Brown then says "go win it!" They break huddle and return to the court. LSU defeated number 2 Georgetown that day in January but that is pretty much how Dale Brown coached basketball.

LSU had an overall losing record in basketball before Brown took over and had only had four winning seasons in the previous 18 years before he came. He went 17 straight years without having a losing season at one point and went to 13 NCAA tournaments including 10 straight NCAA tournaments. Very few coaches have ever accomplished going to that many consecutive NCAA tournaments. And a number of people feel that if Rudy Macklin wouldn't have hurt his shooting hand before the Final Four that LSU would have won it all. Injuries are part of the game though.

Brown never won it all and stayed a few years too long, but he took a piece of shite program and turned it into a really exciting program and an overall winner.

I thought Dale mailed it in during his last four years as coach. I know Jaime Brandon got injuries but still...

He recruits better and X’s and O’s are a wash at worst.

Dale Brown was absolutely having players paid in the 80s and 90s. Everyone close to the program knew it

I don't know how much José Vargas got paid because he was still doing those Tiger Chips commercials.

Sounds exactly like what Wade’s doing right now. Only he started his first year.

And Wade has done a really good job overall and has been great with recruiting. But LSU still had 4 winning seasons in the last 5 before he took over and had been to the tourney 3 years before he took over compared to 4 winning seasons in the last 18 before Brown took over.

LSU was an awful basketball program when Brown took over. LSU didn't even do anything notable with Pistol Pete on the team. There were less teams in the NCAA and NIT tourneys back then, but still, LSU only had 1 post-season appearance in either tourney for 25 years until Brown started his long streak of tournament appearances.
