I can assure, since I watch the BBC and British films... they have no great shortage of homely actors across the pond. If anything they feature a lot more of them.
Now if you want a "what sort of mutant society has bred these people" when it comes to actors I point you to Australia. They churn out great looking actresses like they have a secret lab hidden away somewhere in the Outback.

I think the appeal of most British actors is the opposite. There are a lot of great ordinary looking British actors
