First Spring Baseball Practice

First scrimmage is scheduled for January 28. We should get a better idea of who the starters are in the field and on the mound from what we see during these spring scrimmages. They are similar to rehersals for the regular season games soon to follow.

will it be open to public?

Baseball season can't come soon enough, really excited for the potential of this team.

Johnson mentioned on Culotta's show the other day that there are 7 guys they're looking to stretch out to be potential starters or multi-inning guys. He said the others will be looked at as multiple appearance per week guys.
We should get an idea in that first scrimmage (if not from reports leading up to it) of some of the guys they're stretching out. We already know Fontenot, Hilliard, and Cooper at least.

And Reyzelman, despite their insistence he’s a pen guy, will have to be stretched a little just in case, I’m sure.

Id guess coleman as well

All scrimmages are open to the public. The gate is normally open at least 15-30 minutes prior to first pitch. I don't know the start time for next Friday, as yet.

Yes! There will be no MLB to distract attention from the college season (at least for a while).

shite, I just want a bullpen that is capable of holding a three run lead.

If the number is 7, then I think at least 6 of the 7 would be:
Fontenot
Coleman
Hilliard
Cooper
Floyd
Shaffer
7th could be 1 of Collins, G. Fontenot, or Lansville. Although, I think Reyzelman should be one.
**Also an interesting roster note. Just looked at LSU site and Brady, Wyeth, and Priester are all now listed on the roster.
ETA: Counting the online roster at lsusports.net, they now have 46 on the roster including the ones I listed above and Travinski.

What about Helmers and Edwards? Those 2 seemed to show a lot of potential last season as freshman.

I contemplated listing Helmers; but the ones I listed (especially in the 6) were the ones that seemed to get stretched the most in the fall and begin scrimmages. The only one that doesn't fit that is Shaffer simply because he was not here in the fall. However, he is a starter type.
I think at the end of the day, Helmers and Edwards will continue to be middle relief or set up type guys that go 1-2 innings. And that's no slight against them or anything at all. I think both can be effective.
