Suck at first person shooting games

Man I have trouble playing at an upper tier level in shooting games. For example, Rust if I see someone who’s shooting at me and I have to put a bead on him quickly I struggle with that. I’ve adjusted my controller settings over and over. Changed stick dead zone, but can’t find the right combo. It’s so frustrating. My issues is I have trouble especially if I’m moving and those game if you are still you are dead. Any suggestions? I’m using an XBox One by the way

Get a PC.

How will that help?
imagine this:
moving a mouse with your hand to click the "reply" button on TD.
moving a joystick with your thumb to click the "reply" button on TD.
can you imagine the difference? FPS is the same way. you click on someone's head, they'll die. that simple (on PC).

Just embrace it. That's what I did.

I've been on PC since 2014. Doesn't make you magically better - but it's certainly more fun. In fact, I got better when I went from 1080p 60Hz to 1440p 144Hz. I still suck.

Or play games like Destiny only.

Ok as a newb what do I need to buy that’s not going to break the bank?

if you suck at responding to getting shot at, then work on not getting shot at.
meaning, its very easy for someone already aiming in an area to put their crosshairs over your face and fire. Work on being better at not being in a place where their crosshairs likely already are aimed.

if you're really serious about it, GPUs are going to be tough. they're just really hard to get right now. most of the other parts you can probably get fairly easily.
if you want a GPU, i recently got a RTX 3060 Ti from best buy that's still new in box. i have the original email receipt to prove purchase. i'll set it to you as i don't really need it. bought it to mine with. I'll sell it to you at cost + shipping.
Gigabyte 3060 TI - $640ish with tax
everything else is really dependent on how much you want to spend.
AMD Ryzen 5600x CPU
550 Motherboard or better (make sure it's AMD / not Intel)
Corsair Vengeance RAM 3200mhz (2x8gb sticks)
EVGA 650 watt powersupply (bronze or better)
ATX tower/case
monitors depend on what you want to game at (1080p vs 1440p, 24" vs 27", 144 hz refresh rate or better.).
mouse and keyboard are also personal preference.

What about running my Xbox to a 144hz monitor over my 1080 tv? Will that help?

Xbox Series X?
you're still limited to FOV and control. PC gives you a bigger picture or "Field of View". you see more of your surroundings so to speak.
if you wanted to get a sense of PC from your Xbox, games like Call of Duty offer mouse and keyboard support. set it up on a desk with a computer monitor and run a few games against bots. that way you won't get so frustrated. you can set the bots to retarded or super smart. start low and work your way up as you gain skill and confidence.

Let's start with some cheaper stuff before you go all PC
1) Get a 1ms 75hz monitor or a 144hz if you plan on going to pc down the line or new gen console. The latency difference from a TV to a monitor is HUGE
2) get a controller with paddles or a strike pack. This allows you to crouch and jump without taking your fingers off the sticks so you can aim and jump. Also, Kontrol Freeks are amazing and an elevated right stick will do wonders for control.
3) place your looking "dot" where the player will likely be when you run around and look around corners. Looking down (a bad habit from loot games) will make you have to adjust twice as much. You will most of the time only have to adjust your aim sideways if you are already at head level. Otherwise, if you are looking down, you have to adjust up, left, and right.

I have an upgraded controller with a strike pack. Will there be an issue with the Xbox used on a 144 as far as blurring since the Xbox only really goes up to 60fps.

Part of the problem is you are playing against people who have logged thousands of hours of online play in various first person shooters.
That's why I don't like playing competitive online games. There's not much room for casual play.

The only answer is practice. If you find that you have trouble controlling your aiming point you can turn the sensitivity settings down some (but not too far or your movement will be too slow to react effectively), but once you've picked a suitable setting, stick with it. Constantly changing your sensitivity settings will only make things worse, not better. The goal is muscle memory so that when you see a target you don't have to consciously think about aiming at it, you just point and shoot. When I got back into FPS's heavily a few years ago I was complete and utter garbage and it was very frustrating. But I kept on playing and practicing and while I am by no means a pro these days, I can hold my own. But practice is the key. There is no shortcut to getting good.

Oh I have. I have quit a bit of hours in battlefront. I know some of the better players are using PC’s. Definitely an advantage.
