Folks, please be patient. Hopefully we will luck up and receive another gem of a draft pick (H. Jones) this year.

When Zion returns, I have a good feeling that he is going to be an unbelievable amazing machine. Hopefully he has heard all of the criticisms from the media, and his fans, and he is going to be ready to go to war.

Maybe, but I think the frustration comes from always having to look forward to what they might be the next year. Every year, we go through the same crap. "Next year they will be good."

Yep, and hopefully he has Smith, Ivey, or Mathurin(depending on where we fall) to kick out to next year.

fixed it for ya.

I mean lets be real, this is gonna be the influencer right there lol

Lots of big name talent coming out in the next couple seasons, if Zion dont get his shite together, Nike and him aren't gonna be a long-term relationship

The irony being that every year we convince ourselves we need to accelerate whatever point in the process we are in and win more now....and every time we end up achieving the opposite. And in the long term, end up right back rebuilding from square one because we lacked the patience to just build slowly through the draft and not try and force things

Can I team with max level players (in their primes) ever really be in a rebuilding mode?

I don't understand why most of y'all seemingly think that Zion's injury will take more than 3 more months to heal. That's just insane.

Could he have another setback? Of course. I absolutely understand those of you who refuse to get your hopes up that he'll play this season.

But the cold logic of the situation is you should expect him to come back this season and play before April.

90% of this board was saying that about December in November and October, no way he's not back before end of December, and yet here we are, new year, no Zion, and he's further away(both physically and geographically) than he was in November.

I'd say at this point that the expectations should be non-existent because Zion has blown past every timeline that people have given him, or he/the team have implied.

The same thing was said after the 2018-19 season (when we drafted him)...after the 2019-20 season (after the bubble)...and after the 2020-21 season (after his season-ending "hand" injury).

Sure, people can change. But if history is your measuring stick regarding Zion, then next year, we will be having the same 'discussions' as we are having right now, while looking forward to his impending RFA and the 2023 NBA Draft.

I refer you to the famous Einstein quote regarding the topic of Insanity. That, my friend, is where we are.

Hard to do that when Zion is so worthless

I mean but even to this moment the FO and a good chunk of the fanbase all seems gung ho to chase the play-in by making buyer moves.

When the obvious, long-term thinking move would be to play things conservatively with the team, keep developing the team and culture, but try and end up in the top 5 range and dont frick it up.

damn straight!

and thereby achieve all kinds of integral and synergistic benefits.

we, and especially he, see(s) what his game needs and works on it off season with an expert, a veritable guru who demands the can do rigorous approach to three level shooting and off hand ball handling.
and the synergy with current roster.
live and learn.
yeehaw.
and a fair market value is set. those who overvalue never sell. it remains to be seen what his ceiling is. it depends so much on whether he does choose to learn and master basketball.
allow me to remind you what Ja Morant said about their AAU south carolina time. i threw him lobs and he dunked.
he never had to learn the game. ja came in to nba very limited too. so fast and sky leaper. it was easy. now he has a dependable little 8 to 12 foot push jumper and his 3 pt push thing has improved but certainly no great shakes. hes coming along. needing two hands reduces what he can do. this is a ceiling issue. will he add more variety to his shooting? he cannot do a jump hook coming across the lane because he uses two hands so much until hes at the rim.

I have an idea. Take that statement and write it on a piece of paper. Then hang it on the wall. That way next season, it will finally start to ring true... 'Zion Will Be Amazing Next Season' will perennially refer to his amazedness the following season.

Until he gets to the Knicks. Then he'll promptly win an NBA title, comeback player of the year, etc.

TBH I agree with Tiger ATL, Zion is probably gonna ball out next year barring a major injury setback

Nike has no obligation to extend his contract if he turns into a fat slob the next several years and continues to fall down the list of marketable stars.

He needs to play at an all NBA level to secure some of those salary risers and keep in the good graces of Nike.

A lot of guys coming into the league in the next few years that would love to steal Zion's Jordan deal I bet.

People have been saying that since CP3 left and here we are.

If you never have the patience and take the time to do things correctly, you're just gonna be stuck in this endless cycle of mediocrity forever.
