How does IMG recruit players?

Or does the school ‘sell’ itself?
I’m taking my son there next weekend for a camp and I see it costs $84k/yr to attend. I’ve never really looked at it, so that was a shocking number. Not interested in shipping my boy off…but are these various camps how they recruit players?
The camp isn’t an IMG camp per se, it’s run by another company…just at IMG. I’m expecting some crazy nice facilities.

Had a friend play there a few years ago.
Most families can't afford it, so IMG alumni "sponsor" players. How much of the actual $80k+ they pay i have no idea.
Their day to day schedule is run like a power 5 college football teams schedule. It's absurd.

How is it even legal to have a ‘sports’ high school? Literally everyone on their home page photo is in a sports uniform.

Well their premier teams don't play a traditional schedule, and they're also not eligible for any of the Florida post season highschool tournaments.
They have to take classes, but it's really just to ensure they get credit hours necessary to stay eligible.
They have I think 3-4 teams per sport, and the lowest level team MIGHT be eligible for Florida post season tournament, but I'm not entirely sure.

To be fair, a school like this is preparing it's students for what they'll see in their "real world" more so than 99% of other public high schools.
If their goal is playing pro, I see nothing wrong with prepping a kid with film study, Offense/Defense schematics, weight training, and (hopefully) wealth management classes.
I think there's plenty of anecdotal cases where a poor, barely educated kid from public school makes it big only to squander away their money and opportunity because they couldn't handle the big stage. Mathieu was nearly one of those cases. Had it not been for Peterson and the Cardinals giving him a real second chance, who knows where he would have ended up.

My son wants to play pro ball, what kid doesn’t?, but that’s a bit much for a 15 yr old. I guess some kids are more mature than others…
It’ll be interesting to see the setup, we’ll only be there for the weekend…

I’m pretty sure it’s a legit high school tho, right? I know there are basketball schools that only have 13 students and don’t even have an actual campus, but I’m pretty sure IMG actually has normal students that go there. I could be wrong tho

They have a legit school that the students take classes from, but IMG itself isn't the school. It's just the athletic program. The classes may be virtual, I don't remember. They can afford the football and basketball players because they charge the golf and tennis players parents enough to cover it.

It’s on Bollettieri Blvd…so I’m thinking tennis players should be at that academy instead.

That's the original name of the place. It started as a tennis-only facility and expanded when IMG bought it.

Damn, did not know that. I was a tennis player growing up, but my parents didn’t ever send me over there. Played with a lot of kids who did though.

It’s not a sports high school. You go to high school elsewhere and train with/represent IMG in sports

The $84k/yr is for boarding students, and they call it an “educational institution”. Guess that could mean all sorts of things.

IMG started as an academy for golf and tennis. Andre Agassi trained there in the early 80's. It evolved to football, baseball, basketball only within the last ten years. For the big 3 sports they have a national team and a state team. The national team can not compete for the state championship. The national team only plays a national schedule.

IMG does offer on campus learning now! Don’t know if it started off that way but they do have an academic center with instructors.

Nick Bollettieri created it, I think. Was mostly a place where kids with a shitload of talent were sent to go to tennis or golf boarding school. Some of the best were trained there.
