Lou Holtz. Football coach was asked what is the difference in football players today and 50 years ago. He answered "Simple, Today's athletes talk about rights and privileges. And the players 50 years ago talked about obligations and responsibilities !"
Players opting out are doing so for life changing money and opportunities. Are they really going risk that so you can feel good about your team playing in a meaningless bowl? It's absurd. Your school pride about 1 game doesn't feed their families for years.
Do you think that may have something to do with it? Life changing money vs. one year of college tuition can maybe change a players outlook on a situation.
in 1970, the first round draft picks salaries averaged $45,000 with a bonus of $80,000.
In 2021, The 15th pick got a $15 million dollar contract with an $8 million dollar bonus.
The players don’t owe anything to me, a fan. If not playing in a bowl game is what they feel is the best decision for them, so be it. As a fan, I don’t like it. But I’m not going to say it is the “wrong” decision
Unfortunately you cant blame a kid now with the type of life changing money being given. Personally, my love for the school is so great, I would want to run out onto the field as many times as possible and represent my school and state.
Just too much money involved! If the pay was a 100 grand a year then there would be a different culture! But at 50 million well then the thought changes and it should.
What is way worse than any player deciding to opt out or transfer is the remote idea that any of those players owe you, the fan, any considerations whatsoever.

This is one of the most tired and wore out bullshite narrative's there is. You can't name 10 players who were injured in a bowl game in that 20 years that had there draft stock impact as a result. What makes it even further bullshite is that these players will use this excuse yet do all kinds of risky stuff off the football field. Some of these same kids will quit and claim it is to avoid risking injury yet they lack the mental discipline to back off the devil's lettuce for just a few month's until the combine and draft are over with.
The only constant in this world is that things will always be changing. I get a lot of people don’t like it but it’s not going to change. You can either accept it or choose to stop watching.

I get what you’re saying, but why have these bowls anymore? I don’t see any advantages to playing in a meaningless bowl with a completely decimated team and getting smashed in the mouth by an inferior opponent. What’s to gain here?

I think this is the effect of it changing. Football is on pace for a slow death, nfl ratings are down, college football ratings down, attendance is down. People are choosing not to watch soft, quitting, divas.
