Im electricity retarded and need some help. Redoing some lights at my camp after Ida and putting in some can lights. The whole thing has been gutted so I will be attaching these to the rafters then placing ceiling. How do I connect these in series so they are all connected to the same switch? Is it as simple as connecting red - red/ blk - blk/ and Grd-grd? Im running it with 14/2 wire if that helps. I will be installing these for reference Dem Cans

Doesn't get much easier. Black to black, white to white. Ground to ground. Daisy chain then and then run your wire from your switch to the first can in the series. Each can has a quick connector on it to make it pretty fool proof.

Make sure that you have a 15A breaker feeding that circuit. If it's 20A, then you need 12/2.

Well shite, didnt think about that. If there is a ceiling fan there already, how do I connect it to where I can shut the lights off but still run the fan? I guess that needs to be on a separate switch?

ETA: this is where I confuse the shite out of myself

12/2 is bigger than its needs to be for a 15amp circuit. But it is fine. You just don't want to use smaller wire than you should.

If your ceiling fan has a light on it and has a switch just for the light, you can tie the new lights to the ceiling fan lights. Did this on the patio.

I know what you mean by this but what you want is a parallel connection, not series. Series is what those christmas lights have when one burns out and the whole string goes out.

But yes, it is that simple.

As mentioned by another, just make sure you have a 15A breaker, not anything bigger.

Just jump from one to the other as long as it is the same feed downstream of the switch. All of them will work off of the one switch
