In 2011, Madden approved having concussions being a part of his video game series.

“Concussions are such a big thing, it has to be a big thing in the video game,” Madden told the New York Times. “It starts young kids — they start in video games. I think the osmosis is if you get a concussion, that’s a serious thing and you shouldn’t play. Or leading with the head that you want to eliminate. We want that message to be strong.”

If it’s in the game, it’s in the game!

I thought he was racist?

the NFL didn't want concussions in the game so everyone broke a collarbone

I've been playing Madden for years and I can tell you the most common injury is a torn labrum for some odd reason

Madden on concussions
Goes to show how much things have changed in the last decade. Just looking at McMahon looking woozy and knowing he is still playing makes me cringe.
Edit: Wow, just looked at the video for that game and McMahon suffered TWO head injuries in that game.

Madden didnt just slap his name on a game and call it a day, he took that shite seriously and pushed for realism as much as he could.

Are we going to unnecessarily retroactively act like the Madden product isn’t widely considered by its fans to be a borderline scam with how little they update its actual gameplay?
His name has literally been slapped on it for like a decade

Well, also, he was 75 a decade ago. He may have once had a say-so in quality control for the video game. But I doubt he’s had much input in the last 10 years.

In the early 90s every sports video game was endorsed by a sports celebrity. If they had kept making good Al Unser Racing, Ken Griffey Baseball, or Bill Laimbeer basketball games then they'd be the ones known for it. The 90s Madden games one Nintendo and Sega are like 98% of those sports games, absolutely forgettable and nothing special compared to their peers. What happened was for a period in the 2000s EA was making the best sports games - NCAA Football, NBA Live, FIFA were monsters. Their NFL game still had their sponsorship deal, and it was especially good because by that time it had Madden's voice and commentary so it really seemed like watching an NFL game. I was watching the memorials last night, Madden was the first to tell you he never expected the video game to be a monster and he just got lucky as hell

I just wanted them to bring back the Madden 92 on-field ambulances taking out players like bowling pins.

I read earlier that when EA first approached Madden it was supposed to be a 7 on 7 game.
Madden said F that only ifs its truly 11 on 11 football. It took EAs developers 3 more years to program the game

That's absolutely the case for the current piece of shite calling itself "Madden" but I was really talking about it's origins on the Sega Genesis in the early 90's. I saw a documentary on it years ago.
Madden played a big part in the original idea and pushed for a true on field simulation.
As for Madden nowdays..I would barely call it a football game, but that's been discussed over and over again on the internet.

quote:The noticeable dropoff in quality coincided with him aging and taking a step back. By the time he wasn't doing the commentary on the game anymore they were just slapping his name on it. But in the franchise's prime, he had an active role in making it what it was, including his iconic voice doing commentary.

ETA: I can’t remember what Kenny Lofton’s name was. Speedy something. He was so fricking fast that you could bunt for a base hit nearly every time.

Sorry, just doing my best Kanye impression.
