Who is really in charge of this country?

If you want a real answer, it's the establishment media and universities. The culture among the elected leaders is flowing from there and that is where values and narratives are being set. You can also throw in the professional bureaucratic class that runs the unelected administrative state.

Answer is easy, Uniparty vs the People. If you think it's really dimocrats va repubs in Washington your delusional. That is why Trump was hated by both sides so much and why the pubs really didn't back him. One word "Uniparty"

IMO there's far, far from a single answer on this type of question. I believe there are many different interests in many different areas, each of which are influenced in many different ways by multiple parties. It's very compartmentalized, but not really in much of a far flung coordinated way. Does the wide array of nefarious actors know of the others' devious intentions and actions, sure, but it's mainly a matter of all these different actors picking their own little primary "compartment" to manipulate and bilk. And do their tracks cross from time to time, or maybe even somewhat often, probably, but they basically wink and tip their hat as they're passing each other, knowing that they all have the same goal....personal enrichment.

Oh and the Left is way, way too incompetent in terms of a extremely wide ranging conspiracy. They just don't have the common sense, nor the restraint needed to pull such a thing off. Also, amongst the aforementioned nefarious actors, are there a few amongst them who have the resources and skills to have their hands in multiple schemes at the same time, sure. China would be one such actor. But even in "China," it's not simply one single entity collectively called "China" that conducts its nefarious operations. Within China are also many different actors and interests with their hands in all sorts of different schemes, just the same as described above.

In other words, there are countless bad actors conducting countless different nefarious schemes for a wide array of different types of enrichment. There are so many such different schemes that it's basically impossible to scratch the surface in the game search and destroy.

Sure, there are people with enormous resources putting their weight on the scales, but what is happening is deeper than that.

Back in the day of Carnegie, Rockefeller, and JPMorgan, the establishment bankrolled McKinley. McKinley won against populist William Jennings Bryan, only to be assassinated, elevating Teddy Roosevelt, the trustbuster.

So, who knows how the tale will end up being told.
