Too hot to sit in a deer stand this morning so we did a dove shoot. The kids fed the dove guts to chompers. Front is on the way in today so we will be in stand this evening.

any shooters at the other empty stands?

I saw a few deer. No shooters though. I am surprised at the fresh scrapes I have seen this morning.
I just finished putting out a new ground blind for our buddy that I purchased yesterday for his Christmas gift. I got him (or his son if he can leave the 16 year old snatch alone to come hunt) set up to kill a nice buck. It even has a brand new blind chair with a side tray and cup holder for his afternoon cocktails.
I am cooling off and grabbing a quick bite before I head back out and sit until the front arrives.

The majority of rain has pushed through north Caddo just in time for the major feed time, which is about 11-1. We’re going to stick it out till 1 then head to the camp to work on a 4 wheeler before The evening hunt.

Ever have any activity in the rain? Pretty close to y’all I think, nacogdoches, and it’s coming down pretty good here.

Not really. I’m just hanging around until it’s over hoping they’ll get up and move around.

Columbia, TN, 30 ft up an ash, right on a creek which is roaring from rain last night and I'm about to get rained on. Got the old Woodsmaster 740 30-06. Come on, pre storm movement!

The rut has began in north west Walthall county, much earlier than I remember in the past, I was bitching about the heat and bugs this am but about 9:00 a lone doe came through acting weird, and 10 minutes later a nice big body (205#) 7 point (which I thought was an 8) came nose to ground, , get out there boys

I agree on the early part. We are at least a week early here in Jefferson County.
I can absolutely confirm we did have two ruts last year though. Scrapes everywhere between 12-29 and 1-3-21. It was full moon that week. Cell cameras show fresh fawns sucking the doe's tit at a feeder on July 20th. Gestation period for a whitetail is 201 days. July 20,2021 was the 201sy day of the year.
On January 17,2021, I watched the largest buck I've ever seen in the southern U.S. chase a doe around a cutover for over an hour. Unfortunately for me, I knew he was here. I set up in the woods that morning over an hour before daylight with my 20GA slug rifle. The wind changed unexpectedly and I decided to get into the cutover box. I am dialed in on a gnat's arse at 125 with the 20GA. It has 17 deer shots and 17 kills to date. None of them have taken another step. The best shot I had was at 245 yards after watching him for what seemed to be forever. I missed him three times that sit. I'm still sick about it.
We had fresh fawns with does August 18th-20th on camera. This is the best pic I have of him before that hunt.

I be sick about that one, too. I sure wouldn’t limit myself to the range of a slug gun. A .308 can come in a compact size and still give you 300 yard reach.
Y’all get any pics of him this season?

North Area 9, it runs late her too, usually well Into the second week of January or so.
Settling in for the second hunt of today,
76* thunder rumbling, and I doubt I see anything, but gonna hunt this front line and hope for the best.
Pop up blind over cotton seed and persimmon crush
REM .270 short mag.
Good luck ladies and gents!

The rut is basically defined as the height of deer breeding season.
Does can come into estrous cycle 3 times every 21 days if they are not bred already. And a buck can breed with them as long as he has bony antlers on his head.
So it’s not so much that there is a “secondary” rut, but there are bucks trying to breed does late in the season.
