Hot take: businesses will not continue to pay for NIL year in and out

I understand for LSU to compete we need to start ponying up sizable NIL packages or we will be mediocre fast.
But, unless the NCAA or the conferences makes changes, local businesses and big money boosters will not continue to front the bill. There is way too much risk since these kids can’t be held to a contract keeping them at a school.
It will get tougher and tougher as time goes on to ask business and boosters to stroke checks for tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars to kids who could simply leave if they are mad at the coach for not playing them.
This is not sustainable.. and it’s not just an LSU problem.

Yes they will. It will just be the same money that those people were going to give to TAF and under-the-table player payments. Now some of it just goes direct the players legally, and the school/TAF will treat them well for their services.

And then the player transfers tomorrow for another payday somewhere else

Yes, you're paying season-to-season at this point.

Okay fair point - but if boosters/businesses are going to be replacing their TAF contributions with NIL packages, wouldn’t that hinder future projects? Such as upgrades to facilities, coaching salaries, staff etc?

You guys are just realizing this was a cluster frick from the start and that greed would win and ruin this game. Get a clue!

It’s part of the marketing budget. Might mean ad dollars got to NIL in lieu of some other sponsorships.
As a business going the NIL path with marketing dollars is much more fulfilling than sending it to guaranty

Guys were getting paid a whole lot under the table that we never knew about. It'll balance out over time, except maybe in Texas where those people will blow their wads to win football games.

Only certain business that actually are using NIL as legitimate advertising may adjust or back out
There will be LLC's and Co's created strictly for NIL purposes, their sole purpose will be to buy recruits and not to actually profit from them. This will also be the case for the companies and boosters with F-U money that don't care to turn a profit on a player. The payoff will be the recruiting class rankings and success of the program, not actual dollars in their pocket

Some businesses will pay bc it’s actually good marketing for their company. This is the most sustainable option. But some businesses will pay bc they are owned by boosters and it’s what they do bc they have frick you money. LSU fans are upset about this bc it is hurting us at the moment. When things level off, LSU will be fine. But boosters just ponied up a fortune to buyout O and hire BK. In a perfect world, NIL wouldn’t be new in the year LSU/boosters are making such large investments in staff.

The recruiting part - I agree.
How many times will businesses / boosters get burned by players who don’t pan out, or they transfer, or don’t live up to their end of the deals before it slows down.
For many there needs to be a ROI.
But for starters, big names, etc…. That’s where the real money is.

You realize companies also pay people for advertisements that aren’t college athletes, right? Plenty of lsu non athletes are getting paid tons from companies for one TikTok or Instagram post. The money follows the exposure, not the school. NIL just makes it possible for athletes to get paid the same way the non athletes have been getting paid.

If LSU doesn’t. It will become Tennessee

Schools like Texas AM and UGA will do it. They haven't won anything in a long fricking time and will literally pay for a championship if they have to

The only difference between NIL and years past is that the money is no longer under the table. People are going to pay these kids year after year after year.

Furthermore, there are 85 guys on scholarship.
85 x $250,000 per player is over $21 mill
And it’ll be more than that because there are always some major players that’ll command more.

I guess we just have to wait till then to compete? You say it’s not just an LSU problem - you’re right. It’s an Auburn, Ole Miss, State and Arkansas problem too. A&M and Bama will never slow down, ever.
Lol you’ve never met A&M fans with money then or Bama fans or UT fans
They sure the frick will.
You think they’re getting paid a lump sum but it’s not.
They’re giving them signing bonuses and then the kids sign s context to make X amount each month
If they transfer or leave, there’s s trigger clause to cancel the contracts.
You’re wishfully thinking water finds it’s level but you’re not aware of the the tidal wave we’re on.
There’s no going back and you’re kidding yourself if you think Texas A&M is going to stop spending money on football players
That’s retarded

It will if there's benefit for the $$$ contributors.
Power, Tickets & all the "look at me" benefits.
