I see people bring this up every year and i always thought it was funny myself...
I love the name..don't want to change it..but..
Obviously Louisiana has many bayous
LSU has none..nor does BR for that matter
It's almost like saying Hawaii plays on the beach

There are Bayou's in Baton Rouge. Nice try though.

Embrace it. We are the Bayou Bengals from BA-Ton Rouge, LA.
That's another one that bothers me. The way every announcer says BA-Ton Rouge.

Our players didn't grow up on campus
And it's the same for every school. A mascot is just a motivational stereotype for the region

well there is bayou manchac which seperates east baton rouge parish and ascension parish. but i really agree with you.
i grew up in much more of a bayou region and baton rouge is not a bayou region. although lots of the students and past students are from bayou regions so its really ok to me.

Baton Rouge may have A bayou...but it is not THE bayou as every sportscaster that has ever covered an LSU game likes to insinuate

Bayou Manchac, Bayou Fontain, Bayou Duplaner, Blue Bayou?

LSU is trying to be the states flagship school. They are the most prominant sports school in that state, and even though there are other colleges in Louisiana, they strive to, and do represent the entire state. LSU represents the Bayou state... connect the dots.

Yes and LSU stands for Louisiana State University, so what's your point?

Once more because maybe i didn't make myself clear...i DO LIKE the name Bayou Bengals...i completely understand and like the idea that louisiana is covered in bayous and that they make the connection for all of the world to see. i am also like them saying that br is on the bayou, i just find it funny because it's not

We also take fanboats to class.

1) There are no Tigers (other than ones brought to BR) either
2) It is easier for the announcers to say than the "LSU Fighting relatively high ground approximately midway between Creole New Orleans and Cajun Lafayette Tigers!"

now that's more like it!

While we're on the subject, Mike the Tiger isn't even a Bengal tiger.

Bayou Bengals is cute. Granted. But for me, you can take "Fighting Tigers" (an elite military unit) after whom we are named from our team name from my cold, dead fingers.
ETa: And you're right. Mike IS NOT a Bengal.
