Too bad that's an outlier. We're not in the top 5 according to those.

These computer polls are insane:

Colley
1. Alabama
2. Vanderbilt
3. Utah
4. Texas
5. Northwestern

Massey
1. Alabama
2. Northwestern
3. Vanderbilt
4. Utah
5. Boise State

1. Alabama
2. Utah
3. Boise State
4. Texas
5. Oklahoma

I like Vandy and all, but #2? Really?

Northwestern in the top 5 in two of them? Give me a break.

I'm really pretty tired of hearing that the AP doesn't matter. The only difference between the AP and the BCS (in their current configurations) is that the BCS sponsors a game to be played between their #1 and #2. What makes this ranking system more legitimate? The NCAA doesn't recognize either. The only claim to legitimacy that I can understand is whether those who matter agree with the ranking or not.

Even beyond this fact, everyone knows that the coaches poll is a sham. The coaches don't have the kind of time on their hands to create informed rankings of any teams beyond their own and the ones they play. And I think it is to their credit that they do not have this sort of time. The AP is relevant; just not to the BCS.

Billingsly is almost always thrown out as a high or low.

The AP is not in the BCS AND it is irrelevant. It means absolutely nothing. College football has changed dramatically as far as crowning a champion. Gone are the days of a #1 undefeated team playing in the Rose Bowl while the #2 undefeated team plays in the Orange. Only to have people VOTE to determine which one is actually the champion. And it took alot to make things better. We may bitch at the system right now (no actual playoff) but it is a million times better than it was. And after all the progress that was made to create legitimate champions, the AP pussed out because they were receiving heat for not agreeing to vote the BCS Champion #1 (ala LSU in 2003). So now all they can possibly do is create more controversy in an already controversial format. They could have been part of the process, but they chose not to be. 120 coaches have all agreed on what college football is going to do to determine the nation's #1 team, and no part of it involves the AP. The AP is now nothing more than a poll equivalent to cbssportsline.com's weekly poll. Do you even look at that one? Me either. As far as I'm concerned LSU is trying to win another crystal ball, not an AP title. I hope Miles is using our 2007 AP trophy as a doorstop for the closet in his office. By the way, welcome to the rant, but your first post sucked.

Find me one coach or player who is playing for the AP trophy. Only then would it be relevant.

Everyone wants the crystal football.

Computer polls never make sense until late in the season. The teams have to play enough games for them to have sufficient data.

Considering that we haven't played Florida, Georgia, or Bama--there are no poll that matter!

I don't see the problem here? These seem accurate.

The two main polls fans need to be worried about are the Harris and Coaches.

Those two polls make up 2/3's of the BCS standings. LSU is number 2 in both.

The power polls only make up 1/3. Further, with LSU's tough SEC schedule coming up, I will not be concerned about the power ratings component if LSU takes care of business.

AP is a meaningless media poll.

Outlier.

But the real reason none of these matter is that we play Alabama. If we lose, it doesn't matter where we ere ranked beforehand. If they lose, the same is true. That's why these things don't matter at present.
