Huge money in LNG. I’ve built a few LNG facilities and rumor has it they are paid for in the first few months they start operating.

No this is new news. They are doubling their capacity at the Cameron site.

At risk of sounding like a dumbass, what is it that produces carbon dioxide when producing LNG?

They’ve built a power plant onsite to power the facility. You burn some of the gas to make power to turn that same natural gas into LNG. Natural gas combustion turns to CO2.

The first paragraph is confusing:

quote:

Venture Global LNG today announced plans to invest more than $10 billion in a new liquefied natural gas facility in Cameron Parish that will employ carbon capture and sequestration technology to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

Let me explain. First of all LNG and CO2 sequestration are two separate processes.

The natural gas will be sourced from various points in north and central Louisiana. The natural gas will be compressed and cryogenically cooled at the LNG facility to load on LNG ships.

The CO2 arriving at the “LNG facility” will arrive by pipeline in a dense phase (either liquid or super critical). There will be no sequestration at the “LNG facility”. When it arrives at the LNG facility they will take the CO2 already sequestered by power plants, cryogenically cool it, reduce the pressure and then load it on to ships, trucks or rail for transport.

You don’t sound like a dumbass. The author of the article seems confused.

I’ve been in the LNG industry in SWLA for 11 years and this is not entirely correct. I understand what you’re trying to say, but it’s kinda miss leading depending on how the facility is set up. Either way this is big for the community.

How is the LNG facility processing the CO2?
