I have several in my family that wear glasses and contacts. Vision plan only covers a portion of glasses or contacts but not both.
I was wondering if my wife adds a vision plan for us too would this save us money? Anyone have two vision plans for their family?

Probably.
It’s fairly cheap in general.

Vision plans are kind of a scam. Do the math on the cost and you are probably better off just saving that money yourself.

Same with dental unless kid needs braces.

Private plans are usually better than work plans.

You tried going to Costco for your eyewear. You might be shocked at the price difference.. They even take insurance

Vision insurance is just a payment plan. Putting the word insurance on there is ridiculous.

Vision insurance is highly dependent on your work place and plans.
I have VSP and buy contacts every year. The insurance definitely saves me money every year.

Are cheap and can save your life. I have a friend who went for her annual exam and everything checked out fine. No issues at all. Went for her vision exam, only because she wore glasses, and found out she had brain cancer. She is alive today because of that vision exam.

We buy the vision plan every other year.
We maybe could get away with it once every 3 years.

I guess I'm one of the few who actually has good vision insurance. I pay less than $8/mo for me through employer, it gets my eye exam for $10 ($100-$150ish otherwise), $150 allowance towards contacts every year and $150 allowance towards new frames plus 20% off over $150 every other year. Can use frames and contact allowance in same year, but cant use frames allowance in consecutive years.
So it saves a ton for me, even if I'm only getting contacts and an exam. I pay in less than $100 to get at least $250+ benefit out of it.

You don't need insurance to get a vision exam.

No you do not. You can $45.00ish co-pay to see a specialist and pay an astronomical price for glasses or a $10.00 co-pay with a Frame allownace that you get with Vision insurance or pay the full price for the eye exam and glasses. If you aren't too particular go to America's Best. The moral of the story, get an eye exam.
