Wants to use the States to enact it so it doesn't require Congressional approval. He walked the walk on this himself as he left after 3 terms in the House.

I agree with Ron on this

quote:

Wants to use the States to enact it

How is this possible without getting into an issue over states rights?

I hate when the feds try to force states to support something by hanging federal funding over their head

This is like husbands being for credit card limits for wives. Until the wives are on board it doesn’t work.

Interesting approach.

I agree with congressional term limits.

I am not sure if the state of Florida can term limit is House of Representatives member but would approve any attempt.

It would be easy to see 30 or so states get on board right away. That would be enough

Trump in a week, probably: Term Limits for Congress is liberal. I oppose this.

While I support a constitutional amendment for this my personal opinion is that we already have term limits because they are called elections. If you don't like your Congressman then get involved with the local chapter of the GOP and advocate for someone who better supports your district. The more local control the better so start taking over local GOPs.

Congressional term limits make me so nervous.

Big Pharma/Big Tech/Big Biz can buy the candidate, wait 6 yrs and see what their candidate will set fire to on the way out the door.

You think they lack accountability now?

I can see maybe how you can ban lobbying, but you can’t ban future employment as a public policy advisor who knows who the lobbyist should call.

The only thing that keeps these entrenched assholes remotely honest is the threat that they can be kicked out.

The same GOPe promises for the last 30 years, all broken.

Term limits
Border security
Fiscal responsibility
Reign in the agencies

DeSantis is exceptional at finding creative solutions to get things done. I'd be interested in seeing more of the plan involving states. It can be invoked at a state level but in each individual state or by an Article V Convention.

I'm just glad he is at least pushing for it, the current system incentivizes having 30+ year Members of Congress and for many Districts it is almost impossible to remove them.

DeSantis has the best record of delivering on promises of anyone in my lifetime and his background with experience in the House and as Governor combined with being an exceptional lawyer makes me think he is the best shot we will likely have.

That's not what Desantis is proposing

Those aren't term limits. What you are really saying is that you don't support term limits...you want the electorate to be able to decide if a politician can serve with no limit.

FWIW, I agree with Desantis on this. I don't know if the state approach would work. Nevertheless, whatever it takes, I support.

I typically agree with you, but I don't here.

The basic financial incentive to work in D.C. would be limited with term limits. More importantly, the corresponding power that goes along with those who have accumulated power and their owners would be limited.

that is a good motivational speech for someone that isn’t happy right now but it isn’t that simple when you have some that have been gaining money/power for decades

An exceptional lawyer? Has he ever practiced law outside of government? No, maybe a couple of Article 15 cases, lol.

Name anything he accomplished in the House of Representatives.

Lastly, he has no chance of winning the general election, zero.

Sounds like one of those hooks he should have had months ago when I was getting blasted for saying his campaign was badly lacking any.

Since Trump as the GOP nominee is inevitable at this point, I would love to see DeSantis as Chief of Staff. He is extremely intelligent when it comes to the constitutional/legal arguments and ability to implement policy goals.

Lawfare from the right.

Yep, the state doing the limiting sounds great, but I’m thinking it’s a federal position, not state and therefore the state can’t change the rules. And because Ron already knows this, it’s an emotional tug that he knows is hopeless, and therefore a marketing LIE
