Will History Be Kind to General Milley and His Phone Calls to China?

In January 2021 General Milley was the top military officer in the United States government.
The office of the COJC has established back channels for direct communications with its foreign counterparts. These back channels have been successfully used to stave off aggression from adversaries since the 1950s.
Milley made 2 known back channel calls to China’s top general, Li Zuocheng. The first was in October 2020 when intelligence suggested (incorrectly) that the U.S. was considering an attack on China. Milley told China this was untrue in an attempt to cool tensions between 2 nuclear powers.
The second was made in the days after January 6th, where Milley re-assured the U.S. was “100 percent steady.”
If you consider the political context of these moments, was it reasonable for Milley to have reached out to China to ensure them we had no intention of attacking China and that the Government was still in the hands of the elected leadership?
China only knows what its intelligence arm reports, and a large part of that intel is based on open source. On January 6th and the days immediately after, it was hard for anyone to really tell what had happened or the scope (whether large or small).
These phone calls are what prompted Trump to insinuate Milley should be executed.
Many believe, although Milley was the COJC, it was really directed at his office and what that office represents. Taking it one step further, it was directed at the military as a whole, or more specifically, anyone in the military Trump feels is not loyal to him (keeping in mind officers take an oath to the Constitution, not party or president).
In this context, do you believe history will be kind to Milley regarding these episodes? Overall I think it will, especially if Trump is not re-elected.

"I am pleased to announce my nomination of four-star Gen. Mark Milley, chief of Staff of the United States Army -- as the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, replacing Gen. Joe Dunford, who will be retiring," the president tweeted. "I am thankful to both of these incredible men for their service to our Country!"

Always depends on who writes the history.

China knew more about what was going on than Milley did at the time.
Nonetheless, as far as I’m concerned, he is a piece of human excrement that was answering to the CCP, not doing something admirable or altruistic.
Quit trying to spin his seditious behavior into something noble.

Except he knew, with 100% assurance.

That's exactly how we topple governments overseas.

What should he have done instead?

the afghanistan exit showed us general milley's military. yet nobody was held accountable. with the excessive body count of the ukraine dead, milley should have advised they sue for peace. yet the meatgrinder goes on endlessly. he was not loyal to his commander in chief with that phone call.

Are you kidding? the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs HAS ZERO foreign policy responsibility and what he did should have been considered treason... The only time he would be authorized to do what he did would have been if POTUS had told him to do it...
Don't try to paint this bastard as some type of hero...

I see your point. If he violated any laws, why wasn’t he prosecuted? Trump could have at least initiated an investigation. Or did he not know about it until he was out of office?

If he advised POTUS of his actions then I’d say I could consider them reasonable. The almost certainty he did not makes it sketchy

Again, are you kidding or just being obtuse?

What kind of idiot would assign that sort of benefit of doubt to that fat, traitorou piece of dog shite?
He did it for Political reasons, period.

Not at all - what are your thoughts?

Milley is a traitor, loser and a coward

If by “sketchy” you mean seditious (and quite possibly traitorous), then yes, his actions were sketchy.
