“Donald Trump may think it’s terrible. I think protecting babies with heartbeats is noble and just and I’m proud to have signed the heartbeat bill in Florida and I know Iowa has similar legislation,” DeSantis says. “I don’t know how you can even make the claim that you’re somehow prolife if you’re criticizing states for enacting protections for babies that have heartbeats.”

DeSantis suggested Trump’s remarks are :a window” into how Trump’s 2024 campaign is diverting from the promises he made during the 2016 campaign. “And I think he’s changing in a way that is not consistent with the values of the people in Iowa,” DeSantis told Radio Iowa.

Trump also indicated during his “Meet the Press” interview that he’d negotiate a deal on abortion that’s acceptable to both sides. DeSantis said that’s “the danger” of returning Trump to the White House for a second term.

“I’ve given him credit for his accomplishments, whether it’s the court appointments, whether it’s the Abraham Accords…the deregulation and I think he does deserve credit for that, but anytime he did a deal with Democrats whether it was on budget, whether it was on the criminal justice ‘First Step Act,’ they ended up taking him to the cleaners,” DeSantis said. “I think if he’s going into this saying he’s going to make the Democrats happy with respect to right to life, I think all pro-lifers should know that he’s preparing to sell you out.

If not for Trump, Roe v Wade is still the law of the land.

I may not agree with trump on this, but hes being diplomatic and even ron admits that. pretty much the opposite of what he has been painted as.

I mean i knew this all along.

Thats why I always thought it was strange that democrats hated him so much.

He did a good job signing off on all the appointments Mitch McConnell and the Federalist Society handed him

It is in part the legacy of his presidency, likely to get erased in just a few years' time if he's the nominee, sadly

But just like on the second amendment, he obviously doesn't have any conservative principles. Sad to see MAGA base abandoning any semblance of that for muh entertainment like a bunch of Taylor Swift fans

No other Republican who got to replace 2 liberal justices with semi-conservatives wouldn't have gotten the same result?

Ron is embarrassing himself again. He seems to do that on a consistent basis. Trump just gained another 10 points on Ron!

This is disingenuous and Ron knows it. Trump is taking a federalists approach and allowing the states to do what the states want to do. Like let Florida do what its electorate chooses on the issue of abortion.

Just like when it was wrong for the federal government to have a say so in abortion under RvW it is still wrong now and SCOTUS affirmed that federalist perspective.

Let the states work it out. Federalism.

And if your argument is a moral one carry that argument at the state level. I'm fine with banning abortion on a state level in Louisiana and the federal government has ZERO authority to tell Louisiana otherwise.

Trump is not even worried about the primary. Hence, his slight lean towards working to solve important left issues.

Your speculation doesn’t disprove what I said.

Trump appointed vetted judges who were determined to eliminate it.

This itself is beyond disingenuous. Funny word choice from you there.

Trump is in no way pro abortion.

He is pro-freedom for people across the nation to be able to negotiate the issue and not be shut out by a government 2,000 miles away.

Abortion ban is a losing stance to take.

Plenty of people have said they would hold their nose and vote trump over Biden or vote any repub over the dem.

So hes got our votes, he needs to grab the independents and not saying i will ban abortions is a good play for the general.
