It should make sense to anyone if you want less guns involved in crime, make sure anyone not in prison or jail or adjudged absolutely crazy, is able to carry a gun if they wish.

Very few people get up each day wanting to die. Once word gets out that "you just do not know who might be armed" things will settle down.

No doubt, there will definitely be quite a few "weeds" pulled before the pretty green grass can grow. But over time, a much safer environment is guaranteed. People will respect one another.

Flood the country with illegal guns and you magically have a gun problem. Next, let the criminals run free with no bail ever required.

Economist John Lott empirically debunked the myth that gun control lowers crime about 25 years ago.

I'm not disputing that

I'm disputing the other factual errors. For starters they don't have the strictest gun laws in the country. They have among the strictest gun laws in the country.

The idea that having more guns in the areas with the worst crime would solve everything isn't really that bright of an idea. Do you think with the gun homicide problem they have in the bad areas of Chicago people just assume that you DON'T have a gun?

The criminals aren't going away. What do you suggest?

1. Harsher sentences for people using a firearm during the commission of a crime. Whether that's armed robbery, battery, or murder whatever. Get these people the frick off the streets. ETA - And I'd also add that any juvenile using a gun in the commission of a crime should be tried as an adult.

2. The article mentions some root causes:

quote:

A key point we have to make when discussing crime: Yes, root causes matter. Tremendously.

The lack of two-parent households matters. So does a lack of reading, writing and math skills. As does the city’s neighborhoods struggling with few jobs and fewer opportunities. All that has to be fixed.

But reaching agreement on the causes and solutions of crime – even among allies – can take years or decades.

In the meantime, Chicagoans are suffering the consequences of a post-pandemic-high crime wave: more violence, more stolen and destroyed property, and more deaths.

I'm not sure if there is some quick administrative fix to these problems and there probably isn't. But women having babies out of wedlock, particularly the low income women doing such causes massive problems in society. Perhaps provide more financial incentives to get married as opposed to being a single female ward of the state. Metro areas with high crime problems could take matters into their own hands since the federal government doesn't seem to be interested.

One of the other obvious main problems - drugs and drug policy. The war on drugs has failed us and no matter how many times we double down on it we don't seem to learn our lesson. Decriminalization of drugs with an emphasis on rehabilitation as opposed to enforcement would probably pay dividends in a relatively short time frame.

More police presence. The libs might not like it but lower income high crime areas need more of a police presence. And corrupt police need to be rooted out of the system even if that means that you have to pay police more.

Enforce the laws on lesser crimes like shop lifting and such to try to inhibit criminal behavior before it escalates.

There are a number of different things that can be done but the idea that we just need to flood more guns into the neighborhoods isn't going to fix much.

Is that why I feel so much bliss? Mutual Assured Destruction can be used at an individual level. It is obviously a proven concept.

Chicago and every other democrat run inner city have something in common and it’s damn sure not the guns causing the problem. Can’t quite put my finger on it…

The data are the data. I get that people like you don't like Lott, but you've repeatedly had your asses handed to you trying to challenge the data.

Whomever gives up their guns should never complain when they are rounded up into the camps.

And who is responsible for the most gun crimes there?

Let's have a look...

307 Blacks slaughtered. 81.6%
52 Hispanics murdered. 13.8% (I'd bet most of them are illegal aliens.)
17 White/Other murdered. 4.6%

By the content of their character...
