John Deere agreed to allow farmers to fix

...their own tractors
Why is this even a debate?
"Farmers in the US will now be able to fix their own John Deere equipment or head to independent repair shops without intervention from the agricultural equipment manufacturer.
Addressing a long-standing complaint from farmers, American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) and John Deere signed a memorandum of understanding on Sunday that ensures farmers and ranchers have the freedom to repair their own farm equipment."

Because despite being one of the companies who built America, Deere is the epitome of corporate greed. They are also woke as frick. Maybe there is a correlation....

They can agree or not, farmers have sent their need kids to school to learn to hack John Deeres system and reprogram machinery.. JD just knows they are fricked since they tried to sue the farmers and lost..

They have to be. This software, IP issue was a big deal. Not really for joe blow planting food plots but for guys getting ready to drop half a mill on a combine.

I've been hoping for years that farmers just abandon them.

I'm a diesel mechanic and I can tell you that ALL OEM software is being hacked and distributed for a a fraction of the price. All out in the open too. The manufactures make you pay thousands of dollars per year for software that doesn't even do all the things the dealers can. So they all just getting hacked.
Edit - The farm and equipment side of things comes with some setbacks when trying to hack them. You still cannot access the ECM without the OEM specific connector (which you guessed cost at least $1000). So if you have a John Deere tractor and a Case harvester you gotta buy 2 seperate connectors even with the hacked software. Semi trucks you can all connect to using the same connector no matter the truck.

Dude was selling illegal satellite tv chips or cards. Almost as bad as when Mickey on peewees big adventure was ripping the tags off mattresses.

I'm not one for government ever getting involved in matters but one thing they didn't completely frick up was the somewhat standard of OBD2

I have a 2003 JD 4610 that I bought brand new and it's still going strong.
But 2 years ago, I needed a bigger one for big hay bales and I bought a Kubota because of that crap.

Unfortunately the only way we’d get a standardized off-road connector is if they started emissions testing them and that was their excuse to go all nanny state.

My Pops refused to buy anything JD. International Harvester , Ford or Oliver. F JD.

Excuse my ignorance because I'm an on highway diesel tech, but I've seen JD tractors with DPF? Are you sure that's the case?
