Fresh off his top 15 finish in the PGA Championship, Michael Block will play in next weeks Charles Schwab Challenge. What a story.

What is the back story here? With all the drama between Liv and PGA I haven’t been watching much golf.

This is what sponsors exemptions are for

I mean it is a pretty big deal

I’d imagine for him it’s a big deal

Maybe I’m wrong but I’d image not many club pros get sponsor expeditions on the PGA tournament

heard he turned it down and is going to LIV …

Hole in one late in the round, and saved par on 18.
Fans were going crazy.
It was pretty cool.

Don't know the personal interest story but he's a PGA pro (as in a pro at a club) and each year a number of them are invited to play in the PGA tournament with the big boys. Virtually every one of these guys misses the cut and the few who do make it to the weekend finish near the bottom.
This baw tore it up all weekend and ended up finishing better than a ton of top guys including the world number 1.
Cinderella story type stuff.

He's basically a real life Tin Cup.

If he plays well next week he could be looking at a lot of invites the remainder of the year.

The PGA Championship is put on by the PGA of America. Members of this organization are your local club pros and assistants. It is not the PGA Tour members that host this tournament. There are 20 club pros that earn their way into the event every year. Yes, most don't make the cut, but every few years one or two may. It's kind of like the amateurs at Augusta. Every now and then someone gets hot on just the right week.
Oddly enough, the PGA tour broke free from the PGA of America back in the early 70's, much like LIV tour is doing. Jack Nicklaus was one of the major players that instigated the split. They called it the Tournament Players Tour, or something like that. Several years later, the organization's ended their dispute and came back as the PGA tour. PGA tour players are technically PGA members, but they don't have to meet the same requirements as your local club pro.

Watching the tournament on replay, Rahm, on the headset calling the action. They told him Block said he hits about one bucket if balls a week. Rahm, "how much is he beating me by? Unreal."
That was hilarious.
That was hilarious.

Gonna be tough for a 47 year old body to start grinding every week. Interesting nonetheless
