Researchers are trying to figure out how 246 fully vaccinated Michiganders contracted the coronavirus — including three who died — from January to March.

The vaccines don't claim to be 100% effective.

Second paragraph in your article. Did you read it?

quote:

It may turn out that some of the people were infected before they were vaccinated, and the infection still showed up.

Eta- 3rd paragraph

Based on the posts on the OT this morning the anti-Vaxxers must be feeling super self conscious all of a sudden.

Pretty easy to explain:

1. The vaccine doesn’t mean you don’t get it. It’s just significantly lessens the severity.

2. You’re not fully vaccinated until about two weeks after the last required shot. You could’ve easily been exposed to COVID before you were fully vaccinated.

if it's 95% effective that means 5% (or 1 in 20) can still get infected. 246 per 5000 people vaccinated is right at that 5%

a lot more than 5000 people have been vaccinated

This website says 2,248,768 people in Michigan are fully vaccinated.

246/2,248,768=0.0001093932, or 0.01%. So the vaccine is actually MORE effective than advertised.

It’s also possible (likely) these are JNJ vaccines which are only 72% effective.
