You start lying to people, even your best friends and family about how good you’re doing. What then?

call a psychologist, then a psychiatrist. One for talking, one for meds (if recommended). You're not just lying to them. You're lying to yourself. The act of simply sitting down with a stranger and saying out loud why you are depressed helps immensely. And every time you do it it helps a little bit more in the aggregate.

Maybe it’s time to start being honest with people you care for and they can help you along.
I’m sure it’s not easy and being depressed or sad is part of life brother. Go talk to someone soon.

Use the shame of lying as motivation to get your life back on track.

Slippery slope. In my experience that's where I started to feel really suicidal. Being authentic can help a bunch

Don’t run to a message board full of marginally to clinically depressed men. Go see a therapist or psychiatrist and get actual help.
If you won’t do that, take $40 to L.A. and release some stress.

Lately I keep imagining what friends and loved ones are going to say when I die. Damn depression has me on the verge of giving up

You remember it could be worse living life as an Arkansas fan.

You’re worth more than you think.

How will I laugh tomorrow, when I can't even smile today?

Yes because following behind an animal picking up it's feces it's whole life is super fun.

I feel your pain, as I battle this almost daily. I get suicidal easily.
First look into therapy. Treat that shite like a lawyer after you just committed murder-be as open and honest as possible. Second, talk to a psychiatrist. They can administer a series of tests to try and pin down a specific diagnosis, then treat with meds if necessary. It’s helpful if you can do both in one clinic.
Finally, look to see if tms if available in your area. That and meditation have helped me more than medication. It’s expensive though. In MS insurance only covers it for “severe depression “.

It's important to remember that you're not a burden to them. They love you and would probably do whatever they could to help you.
I can tell you from experience that lying about it only makes it worse. It's ok to seek help for depression. It'll probably be one of the hardest things you ever do but it's worth it.
