Just read the headlines this am. Been years since I lived there. Anyone know why or what happened?

That place always seemed random and didn’t have their ducks in a row. I heard of multiple people going to the ER there and never receiving a bill.

Hate that it's closing... this was our go to place. It was extremely nice and quiet. Downside, it was super expensive (worth it IMO).
They were slow always and I am guessing due to the prices of service, but I could be wrong.
Going to miss that place. frick going to the ER or urgent cares.

Very expensive, bougie boutique ER in a blue collar town. Parking lot was always empty so I'm not surprised. Sucks for the staff members that all got notified yesterday.

I’m guessing St. Pats or Memorial will buy it because it’s less than 5 years old (If that).

Yes it was bougie... and expensive... and worth every penny to avoid going to the ER or urgent cares.

yea i much preferred that place. always did great for us when we went but its a bougie place in a small town.
i mean calc parish only has 200k people. median household is only $53k. 17% of the population lives in poverty.
i mean you only have so many people to choose from being a boutique place. destined to fail.

They were also limited in what services they had. Procedures (surgery, heart caths, GI scopes) are where hospitals make money and they didn’t have any of that.
I think they would have had a shot if they opened in Moss Bluff, Carlyss, or Iowa but that area is saturated with Urgent Cares which is the type of patient freestanding ERs thrive on.
Wonder what’s going to happen with that building, it’s beautiful but don’t know that either hospital in town would be interested since they have hospitals on Nelson already.

I just don’t see 4 hospitals working in lake Charles. Hell I live in a town now that has the same population but only one hospital. Was it a doctor owned hospital or did they just have zero business sense?

It seemed like a good idea but they could never treat anything. They always shipped you out for anything half serious.
Think a souped up after hours clinic.

Dr. Patel was the owner out of Houston.

It will no longer be Avail-able

Yup. And this business model probably works well in Houston.

Free healthcare for all

the business model was to get investors and build a free standing ER. pour tons of capital into it and then close it and file bankruptcy. it never made money. he did it in houston as well.
that place was never going to make it.

It's also right next to another hospital with a relatively fast ER. Last time we went to Women and Children's (that was its name at the time), my wife got seen within 20 minutes of arrival.

I have to imagine the insane explosion of Urgent Cares is why the model failed.

Urgent cares crush because they arent required to see all patients
If you dont have insurance and look bad they just call an ambulance
A stand alone ER has to see everybody

I could see someone developing it into a bunch of doctor's offices, similar to what you see around St Pats.
Hell, Imperial could probably buy it and centrally locate everything within it and/or close that Urgent Care on Nelson and make a mega Urgent Care with office space.
