Why are Gen X such bad parents?

Because their parents sucked. And because their grandparents sucked.
Hard to raise a kid when you were raised by a bunch of selfish fricked up people who prioritized themselves over their responsibilities.

The Kurt Cobain generation.

Looks more like data about today's 18 year olds rather than about Gen X.

Because they don’t care. Just ask them.

Jeez man OP is pretty dumb, what does this graph have to do with parenting? Do good parents let their kids drink?

No time to parent when you’re sucking your own dick.

Because we were raised by MTV.
And now all MTV shows are marathons of Ridiculousness and Catfish.

The drivers license this is so weird to me. When I was a teenager, everyone couldnt wait to get their license. Now I hear half the kids have no desire to get it or care about driving. Wtf if you and all your friends think like this, how the hell do you go do stuff or get in trouble?

It doesn’t say have gotten black out drunk and hammered. It says tried alcohol. By the 12th grade, every kid should have had a glass of wine or a beer with their parents or family and have seen how to drink responsibly

Looks like drivers liscense and work for pay has rebounded with gen x. 2008-2010 was still endtimes of boomer parents I'd say.
So I guess we can take away from this, genx has less money than boomers.

because they took out what they deemed "abusive" and then didnt replace it with anything so now their children are incredibly impulsive, unaccountable, and lacking in discipline.
perhaps corporeal punishment does have its merits

I'm a prime Gen-X man / dad. Kids are 21, 23 & 24. Two Air Force and one still close to home. Always questioned myself as a parent. All three of my kids call me all the time and say they couldn't have had better parenting . my wife nd I did party a lot though.....while having the kids in the house.

Let's see
driver's license- because insurance is $250 a month?
tried alcohol- really?
ever date?- fair enough
work for pay- see how competitive it is to get into a good college/scholarship?
gotta practically start your own charity to get a nod. I told my kids to
make school their "job" and it's paid off in spades

I think this is the best answer. It’s with a lot of things in society and why we are where we are.

We are Gen X parents. Our boys are 29 and 21. Neither of them have fathered any bastard children or ever been in prison. I think we did a bang up job

They don’t want to go anywhere because they have entertainment on their phones via TikTok or gaming so it’s not a huge urge.
They (or their parents) can’t afford a car, the insurance or the gas. The combo of these three costs is rough for young kids right now.
If they do need to go somewhere, they’d rather just Uber.
It’s weird to me, too, but it’s what I’m observing via my nieces and nephews.

I don’t think that chart proves the point you think it does.
For instance, find two critical points on the timeline: when widespread Internet access became available, and when social media use became ubiquitous. See if you notice a correlation. Then ask yourself which generation(s) were responsible for the existence of both phenomena.
Every generation has had crappy parents, though. Sometimes the consequences of crappy parenting just obviate themselves in different ways because … well, societal norms tend to change a bit over the course of 20-25 years.

Too many parents expect the schools to raise their kids
