NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Police Department is investigating after a rideshare passenger was allegedly robbed by his rideshare driver.
It happened at about 2:29 a.m. Thursday in the 2000 block of Pauline Street.
According to police, the male driver drove his passenger, a 33-year-old man, to the destination, but when they arrived the driver told the passenger that he did not pay the fare in full and that he needed to pay more.
The male victim tells police that the driver threatened to shoot the victim if he didn’t pay the full fare and then took the victim’s cell phone. The Passenger complied and got out of the vehicle as the driver drove off.
Few details are available at this time as the investigation is ongoing.

Are they calling cab drivers "rideshare" now? If not, how does an Uber or Lyft driver not pay "the full share"?

quote:Stop parroting this ridiculous industry euphemism. You aren't "sharing" anything - you're paying for a ride, just like a taxi or any other service. (You'd never call a food truck "foodshare").
Rideshare
(And yes, I'm aware that these apps over time added an actual feature where you can share with other riders. That's a tiny part of their business and it doesn't describe the driver here)

Similar to the food industry getting people to say "vegetable oil" instead of "industrial seed oil".

Doesn’t it charge the full amount automatically?
Or did he not pay the Nola tax? Aka give me your phone, wallet, and keys before you leave.

I know that they do allow you to cancel midway through the ride for some reason and I've seen a few videos online of drivers kicking people out for doing so midway to their destinations. Possibly the passenger tried to get one over on the driver and he noticed the ride canceled?

It happened to me once when I was a driver but I had seen videos of it happening before it happened to me so I knew what to do. What you do is just finish the ride and then when you drop them off you can go into your trip history and file a complaint that you did finish the ride to the destination as it was requested and they'll still charge the passenger the full fare. It's just not worth causing a scene while they're still in your car because you don't know how they're going to react.
One other thing some passengers try to do is tell you to cancel the ride when you arrive and that they'll pay cash when the ride is done. Had one try to do this to me saying she didn't have money on her card and she had cash at home. Told her I couldn't and so she cancelled the ride and I still got the cancellation fee.
