From Galvez FD
quote:

Multiple agencies including all of ascension parish Fd1, prairieville fire dept, and DPW are back out on hwy 42. We are also in the mist of evacuating the end of terraceside. With the extreme winds this fire is moving quickly. We know this is scary for everyone as we are working diligently to get this fire out and under control. Please avoid the area if at all possible. Still have no idea what started this fire.

????EDIT: Pineside Avenue is under mandatory evacuation, Parkside Avenue is under voluntary evacuation????

quote:

As most you know, we have been fighting a large 150+ acre wildland fire in the Hwy 42, Terraceside, Pin Oak Corridor. It has been over a week. We appreciate all your help in helping keep us updated with flare-ups that may occur. In doing so, multiple attempts within a short time span tends to create confusion. We are all volunteer and trying to handle each call individually, with minimal staffing until we can investigate the intensity/cause of the smoke/fire. Bare with us, and keep helping best you can, and don't hesitate about coming fill out an application to help volunteer and serve your community.

Wasn’t me. I did joke that it might be a bad idea to fire up the smoker for dinner though

The Tiger Island fire has picked back up today, too. Voluntary evac orders are up for Singer and areas south of 110 and west of 27.

For anyone in the know, what is the status of the Prairieville fire? I’m about 2 miles from there and this is the first I have heard of this.
Is the fire receiving constant attention? Still active?

From the sounds of it you would know if you were under serious threat. I haven't found much on it yet.

Agree, my wife has a couple of coworkers in the evacuated neighborhood and they said that visibility was about 2-3 foot this evening.

Hope that it gets under control.

This sounds serious. Why doesn’t the Baton Rouge fire department send some trucks to help?

These people are volunteers. Quite classless of you to be judging their grammar and language skills. Where are your man skills? Do you know how to fight a fire?

Wife and I drove in that neighborhood this evening also. Obviously things change quickly but when we were there, visibility wasn’t near that bad though there was a lot of smoke. It was very close to some of the homes at the end of the road and everyone had their sprinklers on. Half were packing up about to leave and some were just standing outside looking. One guy was getting Dominos pizza delivered so he wasn’t worried at all .

I live about 2-3 miles away also and after we got back home, four additional firetrucks raced down the highway going in that direction. Wondering if it started to move more after we left.

You don’t have to be a full time firefighter to know how to put together a legible paragraph
