Traffic between Corporate and Essen is absolute hell. First wreck near Jimmy John's looks like a hit and run because only one car is there and inoperable. Other wreck looks like it is has at least three totalled vehicles and the box that controls the intersection lights (Jefferson/Essen) is destroyed and ended up in the middle of the road.

Just another day in Baton Rouge.

Actually I think cars destroying the traffic light control box is pretty rare.

Jefferson is probably the best highway in BR in terms of getting around quickly but the drivers are horrible. Every other car is an obese woman looking at her phone driving 30 mph.

Essen and Jefferson in general are shitshows on a daily basis. Have been for years.

I grew up learning to drive where those were the first two major roads I would have to hit. No wonder I have had anxiety issues for years.

Suicide lanes cause most of the wrecks here, coupled with the fact that there are not a lot of exclusive turn lanes that AREN’T just regular traffic lanes.

Current day and age has less people paying attention to what’s in front of them while driving.

You would like to think so, but I’ve seen it twice in BR (not including the instance in OP).

One time someone managed to take out the box on Siegen under the I-10 overpass. The wrecked car was against the wall under the overpass facing the wrong way, and the control box was on the ground like 10 feet from its concrete pad.

To this day I have no idea how that wreck could have happened in rush hour traffic on Siegen Lane.

ETA: If I remember right, all of the Siegen/I-10 lights were out.

Bc the driver was using the space where the control box is to get around traffic - it happens a lot over there

I absolutely hate 2-way, left-turn (suicide) lanes. While people should be using turn signals to merge into these, traffic running parallel to suicide lanes have right of way regardless. If you're trying to enter one perpendicular to traffic, never assume lack of turn signal gives you the clear. They are wrong, but you'd be at fault.

I’m surprised people haven’t gone full Death Race 2000 on Siegen yet with the panhandlers.

Ive been seeing this guy driving a white Toyota Sequoia on or near jefferson lately. He disregards redlights, stop signs or any traffic in his way. Was walking my kid through tara Sunday and noticed him speeding and driving through stop signs again. I'm kinda hoping this piece of shite was involved and gets locked up. He must live nearby because I see him regularly.

I think it was just a few weeks ago that someone smoked the one just up the road from this one - on Essen by the State Archives building.

Based on where the box is and the position of the damaged cars, I would not be surprised if someone floored if out of the assisted living parking lot and caused the accident.

The light is still out at country club, and Essen. Not a cop to be found directing traffic.
