Your daughter dating someone in a wheelchair

My good friend has been dating someone in a wheelchair. When I first found out I was kind of confused and just thought why?
But then I met him and he’s awesome. Really cool guy who just got in a car accident 15 years ago and is paralyzed in his legs.
They’re serious now and so she told her dad who is irate. He says she shouldn’t be with him and the the guy should only be with other handicapped ppl. The dad told her she was ruining the family. He’s refused to even meet the boyfriend (who will likely become son in law).
I think the dad is a giant a-hole for this. His daughter found love and wants to start a family with this guy (his dick works apparently) and this is the response she got.
How would the OT feel?

is being in a wheelchair a metaphor in this story?

If he can have sex, what's the problem?

It’s not a genetic condition, so the dad just seems like an insufferable douchebag.

If he treats my daughter well, makes her happy, then being in a wheelchair shouldn’t matter.

As long as it's not Oweo, sure.

Just ignorance really. I wasn’t like frick him or anything. Just wondering why a successful and good looking person would choose to date someone with a disability. But again I was just ignorant and being stupid. I quickly learned that.

He's in a wheelchair. Why would anyone not want their child to be with someone in a wheelchair?
The father is the a-hole though.

Not going to white knight this. I think there is def a negative perception to dating handicapped. Not saying it’s right but just saying the dad wants his daughter to have the best life and taking care of someone handicapped is something he probably didn’t think of.

Really no difference between your takes man. Love is love so let them be happy.

I’m not saying he’s right but the father I’m sure wants a man who can protect and provide for his daughter. Not being able to walk could make both more difficult.

Her Dad's initial responses are really douchey.
I can understand offering some counsel to his daughter in understanding going in what a lifestyle would entail with someone wheelchair bound, because reality is there are plenty, but very doable. Most Dad's have reservations for any possible son-in-law even when fully functional and healthy. It's his unreasonable position that is whack.

I wouldn’t want my daughter to take on this burden but if I saw my daughter happy and serious and saw that the man was a great guy, I wouldn’t be mad.

It’s none of your business.
