Wanted to go tomorrow because the weather is shitty and it’s still closed to non military.

Important Visitor Information The National Naval Aviation Museum is open Monday through Sunday from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. to current Department of Defense (DoD) ID cardholders. Access to NAS Pensacola is limited to Department of Defense (DoD) ID card holders (active duty service members, retirees, and their families). For Veterans Health Identification Card (VHIC) holders please visit cnrse.cnic.navy.mil/Installations/NAS-Pensacola/ for base access information. DoD ID card holders can escort guests, but must remain with them at all times. We have established a special visitor information line at 850-452-8450 for answers to your questions about visiting the museum.

After that Haji shot up the place about 4 years ago. Hoping to see it open back up at some point.

From what i hear, it's been tough on the museum as the number of visitors has obviously dropped way off.
They need to come up with a way of access.
Typical USG over-reaction

This sucks! I love that place. You could always find something new to learn about.

That place is damn near Smithsonian level. Great museum.

Took my boys there a few years ago… it was really interesting. Didn’t realize it was military only now.

Out of all the exhibits the ones I remember most are the little biographies of the early naval aviators.
So and so was naval aviator #1
Somebody else was #4
Somebody else was #12
etc

Went last summer. Didn’t expect to like it and loved it. My 6 year old had a blast.

They do allow the public for a very select few times a year. It’s usually announced ahead of time. You may call their office and find out if they have known upcoming dates so you can plan accordingly.

I was planning to go this summer.
I did not know about the restrictions.
What a bummer.

Just called. No dates for the public. However, military and ex military can bring family and a DOD ID holder can bring up to 15 guests.
Same applies for the Blue Angels practices. That sucks.

In the area, there is a 'battery' from way before airplanes. It was for defense and shot cannon at waterline so no trajectories need be calculated.
I'm surprised we didn't hear more about that attack when it happened and the aftermath.

I emailed them a couple of months ago and was given another email address to contact:
pensacolapao@gmail.com
So, I asked them and someone quoted the current policy, which I obviously already knew. When I pointed out that I obviously knew that much and that the Infantry Museum at Ft. Benning was open, there was no reply.
The Infantry Museum is great and worth going to see if you are in the area, and has the added benefit of actually being open. So is the USS Alabama, which is also cool and there is a big collection of planes there too.

What's even more asinine is that VHIC holders can access the NEX, Commissary, and MWR facilities.....
....but not the Museum. The frick?

Whereabouts are you located?

Was there last summer, always carry a photo copy of my DD214.

My neighbor is a veteran but not retired. IIRC, he has to get a pass or register for each base he visits.
He has one for Hurlburt, Eglin, now PNAS and one for JAX NAS as he stayed there overnite while travelling.

Would accept a digital copy? I always keep important stuff like that in Google docs so I can pull it up anytime without a physical copy.
