Pope John Paul II covered up child abuse as cardinal in Poland

The late Polish pope John Paul II knew about child abuse in Poland's Catholic church years before becoming pontiff and helped cover it up, private broadcaster TVN reported Sunday.
Michal Gutowski, the investigator behind the broadcast, said that Karol Wojtyla, as he then was, knew of cases of paedophile priests within the church while still a cardinal in Krakow.
He transferred the priests to other dioceses -- one as far away as Austria -- to ensure no scandal ensued, he said.
Wojtyla, who was pope for 27 years from 1978 until his death in 2005, wrote a letter of recommendation for a priest accused of abuse to Vienna cardinal Franz Koenig, without mentioning the accusations, says Gutowski.
During his investigation, Gutowski says he spoke to victims of paedophile priests, their families and former church diocese employees.
He cites documents from the former Communist-eraSB secret police and rare church documents to which he managed to get access.

It seems like everyone with power inside of the church does

Maybe if the Catholic Church allowed their priests to marry there wouldn’t be so many goddamn pedohpiles in their ranks

If there is any historical organization that should be trusted, it is certainly the Communist Secret Police and their notoriously pro-Catholic efforts.

Probably why he was pope. They all knew about it. Wanted to keep the status quo. Didn’t want someone to end it. Sad people still give them money. Enabling it to continue. Why support an organization that continually covers it up

Marital status has nothing to do with pedophilia.

this is a problem with people, not the church.

The church's relationship with the pope is so strange. Growing up, he was almost treated like a living Saint. It was always off-putting to me and it makes it even more sad, knowing what we know not just now, but even 20 years ago.

True, but if you allowed priests to get married and have a family you'd probably have a better recruiting pool to pull from.

Yeah because there’s no possibility this stuff could be made up about Pope John Paul II

IF true, he can join all the other popes in hell.
IF false, who gives a shite, the powers that be are desperate to smear christians and put muslims on a pedestal. the irony of it is interesting.

As a staunch Catholic, I think it's both. The pedophiles as well as the leftist priests and bishops allowing wokeness and liberal ideologies to creep into the liturgy should both be anathema.

I can imagine - oh yeah, I can’t do that funeral tomorrow bc my son’s travel ball team is playing 2 hours away
I know plenty of priests, and most of them are not pedophiles - the few that are get a lot of attention.

The possibility this stuff is made up about PJP is about as good as the possibility that Cosby never drugged and raped women.

WTF are you talking about? The pedophile stuff in the church has been going on LONG before wokeness was a thing.
